If you enjoy viewing photos of fire scenes and you haven’t been checking out the new FireScenes.Net blog that went live one month ago, you’re missing some very interesting posts. But, for Chicago area enthusiasts, there’s a special treat – several ‘never before seen’ images submitted by Eric Haak from Chicago, Harvey, Alsip, and Dolton to name a few. Prior to his submissions to chicagoareafire.com, Eric did not have a means to share his fire scene photos, and he is generously culling through his archives and posting them to FireScenes.Net.
In addition, several other contributors to chicagoareafire.com who frequent the fire action in Detroit are also finding this as a new venue to share images which some of our readers have enquired about in the past. Since this site features Illinois and ‘just over the border’ fires in Wisconsin and Indiana, it’s not really the place for Detroit stuff, so these images are beginning to find their way to the new blog.

The Alsip FD was toned out for a fire at 12813 Kenneth this evening and arrived to heavy smoke from a 2 sty Ordinary condo building 50×75. First engine laid a lead to the hydrant and advanced 2 lines into the structure making a quick knock on the fire. Command did elevate the alarm to a full still but struck it out 10 minutes later.Companies on Scene:Oak LawnPalos HeightsBlue IslandNorth Palos
Dennis McGuire, Jr. and Larry Shapiro have submitted images to update the Alsip Fire Department listing.
The Alsip Fire Department has taken delivery of a 2012 Seagrave Marauder II engine. When training and equipment installation is complete, Engine 2063 will go into service at Station 1 on Pulaski, and Engine 2023 will go into reserve status at Station 2. The 1986 Spartan/Grumman/TeleSqurt (Engine 2053) will be decommissioned and heading off to begin a second life in Ecuador. Alsip now has three engines and a truck from Seagrave, making them one of the only all-Seagrave departments in the area.
This is the first engine for Alsip with roll-up doors and 2,000-GPM pump. The new unit has a painted steel bumper with is covered with chevron striping, has a zolatone pump panel instead of brushed stainless steel, and it is the first Alsip unit with the shorter ‘barrier-style’ doors.
- The Crystal Lake FD has placed an order with Fire Service, Inc. for an HP100, 100′ E-One platform on a Cyclone II chassis: 2,000-GPM pump, 300-gallon water tank and a 10KW hydraulic generator. The unit is expected to be completed in the end of March.
- The Alsip Fire Department is expecting delivery in September of a new Marauder II engine from Seagrave: 2,000-GPM pump, 750-gallon water tank, 40-gallon foam tank and a Foam Pro system
