This from Wayne Stuart for #throwbackthursday:
The Calumet City Fire Department operated this 1980 Kenworth/E-1, it had a 1500-GPM pump and a 500-gallon tank. It ran as Engine 303 from Station 2.

When I was a kid I remember they installed an encoder in the rig so they could set off pagers remotely from the field (this was before 9-1-1 centers). The way it was wired led to a distinctive radio noise being emitted when the rig was started. So outside of morning rig checks, when I heard that noise on the radio it was usually followed by the rig going enroute to a call.

Central Stickney had a similar Kenworth engine back in the mid 80’s and 90’s. I believe it was all-white with a blue stripe, as was the rest of their fleet during that era.
