This from Brian Murphy:
“This picture shows what a 10 year-old can do with an Instamatic Camera at a parade on a cloudy day. Ok, not that much, but the subject is Elmhurst’s 1974 Pierce-Hendrickson 1500 GPM Engine 1, with old Truck 1 (1955 Seagrave 85′ mid-mount) right behind. Taken during the 1975 Elmhurst Memorial Day Parade in downtown Elmhurst on York Street. Dimples in picture courtesy of thumbtacks from bedroom bulletin board. Memorial Day is coming up soon- perhaps there’s some 10 year-olds out there ready to provide some future historic photos for this site. Enjoy!”Brian Murphy

I believe this rig was replaced by the 1999 E-One Engine that is currently is Engine 3.

This rig started life at the old Station 1 on Schiller Street as Engine 1 in 1974, replacing (if memory serves) a ’70 or ’71 ALF which became Engine 3 at the recently opened Station 3 on far north York Road.
It served as Engine 1 until about the Spring of ’77, when it was replaced by a ’77 Mack. It was moved south to the old single bay Station 2 near York and Vallette, renumbered as Engine 2; it replaced an early 60’s Darley/IHC which became Engine 4 at the old downtown Station 1 (the old Engine 4, a ’47 ALF, became Engine 5, replacing at Station 3 the ’40 Darley/White which was sold- I’d love to know what became of both of these old and classic rigs).
It was then moved to the (then) new Station 2 when it opened in 1980 (Elmhurst consolidated stations from 3 to 2 in ’80 and ’81) remaining in service as Engine 2 until the late 80’s or very early 90’s, when it became Engine 4. It ended service as Engine 4, being disposed of sometime in the late 90’s or early 00’s, again if memory serves.
You know you’re not getting any younger when the station you remember as being the new one has already been replaced with another new one…

That engine spent many years at Station 2 as engine 2 then Refurbed in the mid 90’s by RPI where the jump seats were and tons of rust was fixed and then became Engine 4 a reserve/POC piece
