This from Steve Redick:
This is the radio traffic from a 3-11 alarm with a disaster plan 3 at the notorious 6531 Lowe. This occurred while my dad was chief in the 12th battalion … first thing in the morning. The chief he normally relieved, Bill Foran was acting in the big buggy and had not yet been relieved so he was responding as the division marshal. The captain of truck 20, who had some classic radio replies was Richard Fitzpatrick. The voice of the englewood office was Harry Haddon back in his heyday. This building had super long hallways, masks were barely in use at this time and the people were hanging out all over the place. This was a real dandy.

I am Bill Conroy’s daughter. I just came across this. What a wonderful photo of my father and one of his best friends, Dave Bukiema doing what they loved most. Thank you so much for posting.

Thanks for posting. I am assuming that the two extra flying squads were specially requested because this was the height of the manpower problems and most of the designated “5 man companies” per the Maatman report were operating with four and several of the “four man companies” were actually operating with three. The 6 man flying squads were probably operating with five. This was not a great period in CFD history.
Steve: I suspect your father relieved extra early and that is why Bill Foran was still acting 7th Division Marshal. The regular division marshal for that shift and the person that would have relieved Bill Foran was probably John Murray. Like your father, he was also a north sider.
I’ll bet your father missed Engine 51 and Truck 30 when the left the 12th Battalion.
