Chicago 2-11 Alarm fire 12-14-11

The Chicago Tribune reported the following about a 2-11 Alarm fire this morning:

Nearly 100 Chicago firefighters this morning battled an extra-alarm blaze on the city’s West Side that jumped from a Chinese restaurant to two storefronts with second-floor apartments, officials said.

No injuries were reported in the 2-11 alarm fire that appeared to have started in the one-story restaurant  near the intersection of Cicero Avenue and Harrison Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The blaze, fueled by tar on the roof of the restaurant, then traveled to two buildings on either side, said Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado.

The fire broke out about 3 a.m. and spread quickly despite a steady rainfall. It was finally brought under control about 5:45 a.m. Fire officials said the fire was fueled by tar on the roof of the restaurant. As many as 99 firefighters were on the scene.

Chicago Still & Box Alarm 12-13-11

Hank Sajovic took in a fire yesterday in Chicago and provided several images and the following description:

On December 13, 2011 companies in the 14th Battalion responded to a still alarm for a fire at 4018 W. Cermak Rd.  Engine 38 arrived to find a fire in a 2-story brick apartment building measuring 25 x 60.  Truck 32, the second due truck, arrived and went to their assignment in the rear where they found the back of the structure heavily involved.  The captain notified the 14th battalion and with that report he requested a Box alarm.  Three lines were used to control the fire. The building was reportedly vacant and the fire was suspicious. The Office of Fire Investigations was requested to the scene.
