A few shots from Wheaton 3rd Alarm today at 976 Tara Court. Fire started in the rear and extended up the wall and into the attic space, this was a dead end street, 2nd engine had a long lead-out approximately 1000′ to the hydrant, all companies had to walk in from Blanchard with tools and equipment. Temperature was about 98 degrees at time of fire.

Wheaton Supports Fire/Rescue AllianceIn order to improve cooperation among the Wheaton Fire Department and West Chicago, Carol Stream and Winfield Fire Protection Districts, the City Council approved a resolution supporting the establishment of the West Suburban Fire/Rescue Alliance. The four entities have been working together to make their training and operations more uniform and to better combine resources in order to enhance public health and safety.
Departments in DuPage County that operate on the DuComm north channel (154.1750) are instigating a new numbering system for stations and apparatus. Some of those changes are outlined below;

these changes are part of a larger program that is instituting combined training, SOP’s and SOG’s in several towns and FPDs. There has been on-going combined training and standardized operating procedures since at least last summer. As an example, the TL in West Chicago and the TL in Carol Stream have the same seating assignments and operating procedures on the fireground.
Stephen Wilcox has submitted images and information about yet another fire in western Dupage County (MABAS Division 12) that occurred last month. Here is what he had to say:
Wheaton Fire: 419 N. Ellis on 6/17/11 @ 0447 hours. The structure, circa 1900, balloon frame, lath & plaster, knob and tube wiring construction. Warm, humid conditions on arrival. Fire was located on all floors and in the attic. Neighbors told members they thought someone was still inside. The extra alarm covered these three items. Several handlines, six ground ladders were used. (Family was returning from the Far East.)
