Box alarm fire in Schaumburg, 8-12-17 (more)

Excerpts from the DailyHerald.com:

No one was injured in a blaze in the 200 block of Oak Knolls Court in Schaumburg that started around 3 a.m. Saturday, but flames quickly spread through other’s garages, lighting up vehicles and then flitting upward. Five vehicles burned. The building was left uninhabitable.

The four units in the townhouse building were badly damaged, while a firewall prevented the fire from spreading to another four units, which sustained only smoke damage.

“When the first units arrived, it was completely involved in fire. Then it started spreading up the outside walls into the eaves and attic,” Schaumburg Fire Capt. John Steele said.

Smoke detectors were working and alerted residents of the two-story wood structure. Fire departments from nine different towns assisted.

Townhouse fire in Schaumburg, 10-2-16

This from Larry Shapiro:

Schaumburg firefighters were called to 1015 Newport Harbor this afternoon (10/2/16) after multiple callers reported a fire. Callers stated that an elderly resident was trapped on a second floor balcony on the east side of the four-unit, two-story building. First arriving companies reported smoke from the attic.

Schaumburg Battalion 5 upgraded the alarm to a Code 4 for the working fire and requested a second truck and two additional ambulances after receiving reports of a second victim. Squad 55 was the first-in engine and initiated fire attack encountering high heat and zero visibility with hoarder conditions within the second floor unit. Truck 53 made the rescue off the balcony, reportedly carrying the elderly resident down a ground ladder.

The fire was in a rear bedroom with fire blowing into the hallway and running the entire attic space. The fire was knocked down within 20 minutes though companies were at the scene for roughly 90 minutes. There was no extension to neighboring units. The resident was transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation.

Fire caused $600,000 damage Tuesday to a townhouse complex in Schaumburg.

Firefighters called to 392 Thornhill Court about 2:50 p.m. for a possible electrical fire in a second floor unit encountered heavy smoke and flames on the stairway as the entered. More than a dozen people had escaped safely and were outside when firefighters arrived.

The main fire in the apartment was extinguished in about 15 minutes, but it had spread to the attic and walls, according to Schaumburg Fire Capt. Frank Chambers. Crews stayed another few hours to ensure it was completely out, Chambers said.
