Mark Robert Amore, age 46, of McHenry, died Thursday, April 16, 2020. Born Feb. 1, 1974 in McHenry, Mark was the son of Wayne and Christine (Dzanbozoff) Amore. On Sept. 28, 2013, he married Jaimie Tabert in McHenry. Mark became interested in emergency services at a young age chasing fire trucks through the streets of McHenry on his bicycle.
While he was in high school, he joined McHenry County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency as a radio operator. His first call was to respond to the Plainfield tornado in 1990. He also worked as a dispatcher for the city of McHenry for short time. From then on, he set a goal to become a firefighter paramedic. After high school, he began taking EMT classes at McHenry County College. His first job was with TEK Ambulance Service as an EMT. He went on to paramedic and firefighter classes at MCC. When he turned 21, he joined his father as a member of McHenry Township Fire Protection District, a proud moment for both. He retired from MTFPD as a lieutenant with 20 years of service.
Mark’s love for heavy equipment and machinery took him to attend Local 150 Operating Engineers apprentice program. Upon completion, he was immediately hired by Lake County Grading, where he worked for 21 years. He was currently employed by Pirtano Construction.
He was hired on May 1st, 2001 as a fulltime firefighter/paramedic with the Lincolnshire Riverwoods Fire Protection District, where he was currently employed. As time went on, Mark became active as a mechanic for the district using the skills and knowledge he learned in McHenry.
Mark was a member of the Lake County Underwater Recovery Team as a side scan sonar and boat operator. Mark was an avid boater on the Chain-O-Lakes; he loved the water. In the winter months, his focus turned to snowmobiling, where he never missed going to northern Wisconsin for riding action. He loved the north woods.
Mark was truly in love with his wife Jaimie. She was his ALL. Their kids, Ayden and Brynlee, completed his dream of being a husband and a dad. He was so happy that, as a family, they could all explore boating, snowmobiling, and camping. Those were his most cherished times and made all his long hours of working pay off.
Survivors include his wife of six years, Jaimie; a son, Ayden; a daughter, Brynlee; his parents, Wayne & Christine Amore; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cindy and Greg Tabert; his sister-in-law, Jenna (Scott) Ridenour; two brothers-in-law, Jason and Justen Tabert, his grandmother Marge Dzanbozoff; his aunts, Sister Jean Amore, SMIC, Sandy Amore, Marge Amore, Margret “Peg” Stevens, Patty (Bill) Vavrik. Fran (Gil) MIchelini; his uncles, Damien “Buster” (Cindy) Amore; several cousins and very close personal friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Mary Amore and Thomas Dzanbozoff; his uncles, Tom Amore, Terry Amore, and Ray Stevens; and his cousins, Cheri Amore and Tony Williams.
Due to restrictions in place with the COVID-19 pandemic, a drive-through viewing for the public to pay their respects will be held at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. All people paying their respects are asked to remain in their cars at all times while in line at the funeral home and follow signage in the funeral home parking lot. Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at The Church of Holy Apostles, in McHenry. Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District (LRFPD) Chief Tom Krueger was as devastated as anyone Thursday when he heard that Firefighter/Paramedic Mark Amore had died.
Amore was working another job, doing excavating in Fox Lake when a skid-steer he was operating rolled over a seawall into the water trapping him inside. Amore, a McHenry resident and former member of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD), was taken to Northwestern McHenry Hospital, where he died from the injuries suffered in the accident.
Away from the fire station, Amore was someone friends say enjoyed his free time. He spent many free hours boating in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter months.
“I pretty much envied him because of his lifestyle,” Krueger said. “He was always on his boat, living life to the fullest. He influenced so many people. Everybody knew Amore, he was like the Mayor of McHenry. He loved the fire service. In the fire service, we called him a fireman’s fireman, which is probably the best compliment you can get.”
Mark and his wife Jaimie have a 5-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter. He followed his father Wayne into the fire service. Wayne was the first full-time fire chief for the McHenry Township Fire Protection District. With his father as McHenry chief and two uncles who also were firemen, Mark was destined to work in the fire service.
Wayne and his wife were in Arizona on Thursday when they heard about the accident. Wayne also lost a brother-in-law in Arizona on Thursday shortly before Mark’s accident.
The wake will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Justen Funeral Home, 3700 Charles Miller Drive in McHenry. As is tradition, MTFPD and LRFPD firefighters will stand guard at the casket 24 hours a day for the entirety of the time it is at the funeral home.
In accordance with Illinois’ stay-at-home order regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the services will not be open to the public. Those wishing to pay their respects will be allowed to drive by the funeral home, but are asked to not exit their vehicles. The drive-through procedure will be as follows: The casket will be placed in the front vestibule, so people can drive through the carport and park for 15 to 30 seconds, then pull ahead and stop to pay their respects to the family. Workers will take information and addresses for the family.
The funeral will be live streamed at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Individuals and fire apparatus will be allowed to participate in the procession from the church to the cemetery, but people will not be permitted to leave their vehicles.

Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD Firefighter Mark Amore
Forty six year-old Mark Amore, a firefighter with the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District, died Thursday after a Bobcat flipped upside down and trapped him in the water at Ben Watts Marina in Fox Lake. Amore was a former lieutenant with the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, where his father, Wayne, was the district’s first full-time chief.
The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Firefighters IAFF Local 4224 wrote on Facebook that there were no words to express what the Amore family and their fire family are going through.
Amore, according to his Facebook page, was a heavy equipment operator at Pirtano Construction Company.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District was dispatched at 2:20 p.m. Thursday to Ben Watts Marina at 116 South Route 12 for a water rescue where they found a Bobcat upside down in the water, with Amore still inside the cage. Divers from the fire protection district pulled Amore out of the water. He was then taken to Northwestern McHenry Hospital in serious condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Lincolnshire Police Department said officers responded to a community pool at 445 Village Green at about 2:20 p.m. for reports of two unresponsive teenagers. When officers arrived, they found the teens unconscious but breathing. They were taken to Lutheran General Hospital in serious condition.
The initial investigation suggested there was a chlorine gas leak or a carbon monoxide leak after servicing the pool earlier in the day. Firefighters and hazardous material teams focused on the clubhouse near the pool where the boy and girl were found. Some of them inhaled the poisonous fumes in the process. A total of 14 people ended up being transported to area hospitals for treatment: six police officers, four firefighters, and four civilians, including the two original victims.
Fire Chief Tom Krueger said two of the devices they use to measure hazardous materials at the pool were broken due to the high levels of poisonous gas in and around the clubhouse and pool. He said in his 19 years on the job he had never seen anything like that before.

The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD was dispatched for a reported house fire at 4:26AM Thursday morning (1/3/19) on North Apple Hill Lane in Prairie View. Responding units from nearby Station 51 saw a glow in the sky and the response was upgraded to a working fire. Arriving companies found a two-story house that was fully engulfed by fire. The house was believed to be vacant and undergoing some renovation. The ladder pipe from Truck 53 went into service right away along with three hand lines as the entire operation was defensive.
Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and Grayslake trucks were at the scene along with two engines from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, one each from Lake Forest and Countryside, Buffalo Grove Quint 27, squads from Deerfield-Bannockburn and Libertyville, a Long Grove ambulance, and chief officers from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Countryside, Libertyville, Long Grove, and Deerfield-Bannockburn.

The driver of an SUV was trapped after a one-car collision with a tree. Firefighter from Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Long Grove were at the scene on west Deerfield Parkway between Milwaukee Avenue and Busch Parkway. The extrication lasted just over an hour. The victim was transported to Condell Hospital.
