The Glenwood Fire Department had a working fire on Thursday afternoon (8/11). Crews did a great job of saving a home that was in a non-hydranted area. Here are a few images from the scene.

This was a 1st alarm fire in Portage, Indiana on Saturday afternoon (5/28). I was a little late arriving and, although it doesn’t look like much, one elderly victim was transported from the scene. Conditions for rig shots were unfortunately not optimal but thought I would submit some images regardless.

Engine Co. 115 arrived at 12021 S. Eggleston and found a basment fire in a 2-story brick apartment building. Batt. 22 called for the Still & Box alarm because the fire had quickly extended to the 2nd floor. Hydrants in the area might have been frozen as there was a delay in getting a positive water source. Truck Co. 27 set up in the 1/4 sector with their main to the roof. The fire was handled by the companies with approx. 4-5 handlines. Also of interest is while the companies were inside the building, a neighbor decided he didn’t want to wait any longer and he had to leave. He drove his car over a few hose lines but was quickly blocked in by 6-7 fireman and a cop. Needless to say he didn’t move much more.Dennis McGuire Jr.

This from Scott Peterson:
Occurred today approx 1030hrs @ 21 S Hi Lusi Ave. Tower 13 first on scene found hvy smoke conditions, upgraded to a Code 4 (no Eng 13). Hvy fire on the 2nd flr of the 1-1/2sty cape cod. Just as I arrived, co’s did an evacuation due to a floor collapse on the 2nd flr. Crews went defensive for a few minutes, knocked it down and went back interior. Couldn’t get around to the rear due to the fact that just about everyone’s yards had large fences, but there is a large bump-out addition on the 2nd flr rear. Cos on the fire auto-aid to the Code 4 level were, AHTS Tower 1, DESP Eng & Batt Chief, EGRT Eng 11. ROLM Eng & GLVW Eng C/Q.Good job by all!Scott

Dixmoor FD was toned out at approx. 0810 hrs this morning for a structure fire at 2309 W. Joliet Road. Police arrived and confirmed a working fire. Engine 2443 pulled up, found fire in a 2 sty bi-Level home, and called for the Full Still on their Box# 2409. The home appeared to be vacant, but that was not confirmed. Searches were made and the crews found nobody. The main body of the fire was in the lower level of the home and was quickly put out. Area departments that assisted: Calumet Park, Phoenix, Posen, Oak Forest, Robbins, South Holland and Riverdale were all on scene along with Garden Homes FPD and Hazel Crest were on the change of quarters.
