Working fire in Chicago, 12-1-19

This from Chi-Town Fire Photos:

Chicago had a working fire on the northwest side Sunday morning @ 2230 N Narragansett 12-1-19. Engine Co. 125 had a fire in the walls and attic in a 1.5 sty frame house. Two lines were lead out during the fire. Truck 53 and Squad 2 cut numerous holes in the roof. Looked to be a real labor intensive fire.  Engine 125 is still in a spare engine after their crash many months ago. I hear that they are going to get their regular assigned E-One back in the coming week or so.

Rundown:
Engines 125 – 68
Trucks 53 – 58
Battalion 8
WRKF – RIT Battalion 7, RIT Truck 57, Squad 2, 2-7-2

Working fire in Chicago, 1-6-17

This from Eric Haak:

Shortly before 0700 hrs on Friday morning (1/6), Chicago’s 24th Battalion had a working fire in a 2-story frame home on the 13400 block of South Carondolet Ave. The fire appeared to be blowing out of the 1st floor rear windows and a door on the “D” side. This side had very limited access and was separated from a commercial building by only a couple feet. The hydrant directly in front of the home was not working (unknown if frozen or not) and Engine 97 secured water by using a hydrant further down the block on 134th Street. Engine 104 was in a spare. All of the occupants, including the family dog, made it out of the home safely.

House fire in Mt Prospect 3-18-13

This from Scott Peterson:

Occurred today approx 1030hrs @ 21 S Hi Lusi Ave. Tower 13 first on scene found hvy smoke conditions, upgraded to a Code 4 (no Eng 13). Hvy fire on the 2nd flr of the 1-1/2sty cape cod. Just as I arrived, co’s did an evacuation due to a floor collapse on the 2nd flr. Crews went defensive for a few minutes, knocked it down and went back interior. Couldn’t get around to the rear due to the fact that just about everyone’s yards had large fences, but there is a large bump-out addition on the 2nd flr rear.  Cos on the fire auto-aid to the Code 4 level were, AHTS Tower 1, DESP Eng & Batt Chief, EGRT Eng 11. ROLM Eng & GLVW Eng C/Q.
Good job by all!

Park Ridge Box Alarm 8-4-12

Severe storms passed through the city and suburbs late in the afternoon on Saturday keeping many fire departments busy. Park Ridge and North Maine units were picking up from a storm related call shortly after 5PM when a call was received reporting smoke from a house next door to another home with a gas leak. North Maine Engine 1 was first on the scene at 110 N. Home Avenue and reported smoke showing from two sides of a large two-story modern home. The alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 for the working fire shortly after the first units arrived.

Units on the still alarm were Park Ridge with an engine, tower, two ambulances and the battalion chief, Niles Ambulance 3,  plus North Maine Engine 1 and Battalion 1. The Code 4 brought Niles Truck 2, DesPlaines Engine 62, Glenview Engine 7, Lincolnwood Ambulance 15,  tower 158 from Rosemont, plus Squad 4 from Morton Grove.

Companies entered the house and found clear conditions on the second floor until they opened the scuttle to the attic. They encountered high heat, heavy smoke, and active fire. Portions of the attic were finished with a plywood floor which hampered efforts to gain access to parts of the attic from some of the second floor rooms.

Two lines were used in the house and multiple holes were cut in the roof. The high humidity and extensive interior work necessitated an upgrade to a Box Alarm for relief companies. This brought engines from River Grove, Norwood Park, and Wheeling, a tower from Mt. Prospect, a squad from Skokie, an ambulance from Buffalo Grove, and Des Plaines Battalion 9. The fire was struck out around 6:30PM.
