The Wheeling Fire Department received a call reporting a shed fire Friday evening along Hintz Road near the railroad tracks. Companies pushing out of nearby Station 23 reported a header and directed units to an asphalt contractor yard along the railroad tracks, just east of the MABAS Readiness Center.
Engine 23 found a fire in the yard next to a shed which extended to a stack of wood pallets and was impinging on a nearby truck with a tank filled with tar. They requested Squad 24 with pump-and-roll to make it’s way back into the yard to assist with a quick attack while Engine 24 dropped several hundred feet of LDH from the yard to a hydrant on the adjacent property. Larry Shapiro was at the scene and submitted several images.
Companies held the fire in check and the tank cool until the continuous water supply was established and the fire could be extinguished.
