About 7:20 p.m. on Friday night, two boys were in paddle boats on Bangs Lake in Wauconda. They had been playing in the neighborhood when they came across the boats and decided to go out onto the water, officials said.
The two panicked because of the strong wind and rough water conditions, and they jumped into the lake to swim back to shore, police said. Nearby fishermen overheard screaming, pulled an 11-year-old boy out of the water and took him to shore.
First respondersFire department divers could not initially locate the second boy, who was identified as Geraldo Rodriguez, 9.The Wauconda Fire District called for additional divers and sonar technicians. The effort was switched from rescue to recovery about 10:30 p.m. Friday and continued until about 3 a.m..
The sonar team found the boy’s body around noon Saturday near the deepest part of the lake, which is about 30 feet deep. The water was about 45 degrees, and the surviving child is being treated for hypothermia.
Crews from Lake Zurich, Barrington, Long Grove, Round Lake, Fox Lake, Countryside, Grayslake, McHenry Township, Crystal Lake, Buffalo Grove, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Mundelein, Cary, Nunda Rural, Gurnee, Newport, Huntley, Fox River Grove, Richmond, and Wonder Lake assisted during the incident.

Divers and sonar technicians were looking for a 9-year-old boy in Bangs Lake in Wauconda Friday night. Wauconda police said they were called to Lakeview Villa Beach at about 7:20 p.m. for a water rescue. A 10-year-old boy and 9-year-old boy had been on the lake in a paddleboat, they went into the water and screamed for help. Nearby fishermen were able to pull the 10-year-old out of the water before emergency crews arrived.
Rescuers were still searching for the 9-year-old boy as of 9:45 p.m. Police said high winds and rough water carried the boy out towards the center of the lake. Fire officials said that 15 divers and a group of sonar technicians from both the Wauconda Fire Department and other nearby fire departments continued to search for the boy.
Fire officials said the 10-year-old boy did not sustain any life threatening injuries and that divers and sonar technicians would likely continue to search until midnight.

An Itasca man died and an Elgin woman is missing after encountering dangerous conditions while swimming in Lake Michigan on Sunday.
Authorities responded about 9:15 a.m. to the Park Avenue Beach in Highland Park, where 10 people involved in an independent cold-weather swim group entered the water from the boat launch area and were struggling in the rough conditions. Two swimmers were in distress and were unaccounted for at the scene.
An unresponsive 46-year-old Itasca man was pulled out of the water by
emergency respondersfire department divers and taken to Highland Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His identity has not been released.A 52-year-old Elgin woman remained missing as of Sunday evening.
Boats were unable to enter the water because of the high waves and hazardous conditions. Firefighters searched from the shore, and a Coast Guard helicopter arrived about 11:45 a.m. to assist.
Just before 4 p.m., the aircrew suspended its search of a roughly 10-square-mile area near where the woman was last seen. Highland Park officials said Sunday evening their search efforts are continuing, and police departments along the Lake Michigan shoreline have been asked to monitor their beaches for the missing swimmer.
The National Weather Service on Sunday afternoon warned of strong winds of nearly 40 mph and waves reaching 10 feet high along the lakefront. Water temperatures were about 55 degrees.

DETAILS: Two young adult sisters had to be rescued by North Aurora firefighters after the inflatable boat they were in collapsed on the Fox River near Lippold Park in Batavia. The girls who had been visiting the park were spotted hanging onto a tree that had fallen over in the Fox River next to an island adjacent to Lippold Park at the south end of Batavia at 2001 S. River St. (IL-25). The North Aurora battalion chief said the girls were lucky that witnesses saw the incident unfolding and called 9-1-1. The sisters were described as losing their grip shortly before being rescued by firefighters using the North Aurora Fire Department’s Zodiac rescue boat. The girls were brought to shore behind the North Aurora Village Hall where they were evaluated by medics before being released at the scene.

Don’t know if the original call was someone who had jumped in from the bridge or just someone who fell in. Companies worked the area for several hours but came up with nothing at the time of me writing this. Thought I would share images of some rigs and equipment that were on scene.

at 23:45, companies were dispatched for a car into a pond at Arbor and Charlestowne. First units found a car totally submerged in a retention pond … unknown at the time if anyone was still inside … thankfully there was not. Divers from 10 areas departments assisted.
