Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
A 23-year-old Chicago woman, …identified Monday as Christina Hill … was found dead Monday morning after her car crashed into the Des Plaines River near River Forest Sunday evening the Illinois State Police said.
The accident happened near the intersection of Thatcher Avenue and North Avenue in the River Forest area, according to River Forest Fire Chief Jim Eggert. Emergency units on the scene sent divers into the water last night to search for a driver in the car or on the nearby riverbanks but found nothing initially, he said. Because of the lack of light, high water level and fast current, officials decided it was too dangerous to continue and ended the search around 10:30 p.m. last night.
During [a] renewed search Monday morning, the driver was found about 400 yards south of the accident, he said.
During the process of removing the vehicle from the river yesterday, River Forest police used the license plate to identify the driver as Hill. She was last seen alive around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, Eggert said.
thanks Dan

This from Steve Redick:
Had a great opportunity to take in a dive incident at North & Thatcher yesterday. A car went over the guardrail and wound up in the middle of the Des Plaines River. The local FDs do not have any kind of dive team available so they utilized Chicago Squad 7 divers from O’Hare. It was interesting to observe the placement of the access ladder and the deployment of the divers. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a good look through the tree branches but you will get the idea. Some unusual rigs were on the scene as well … squad 7 was using an old engine as a spare. I believe that the boat came from the North Riverside FD, and was deployed upstream from my location. The search found no one and as of this writing they have retransmitted a dive box to search further. I am guessing that the owner of the vehicle has come up missing.

This is from West of the I in Kenosha County:
The search for John Spoor, 66, of McHenry, Ill. will continue Thursday on Silver Lake.
Here is the latest statement from Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Bill Beth:
The search for Mr. Spoor will continue today on the waters of Silver Lake. Incident Command is Silver Lake Fire Chief Allison Draeger. At this point the plan for the search is to first check the shoreline areas and then resume the sonar search of the deep waters. Search teams are expecting assistance from cadaver dogs today as well. Agencies involved in the search today are the Wisconsin DNR, Kenosha Sheriff’s Department Marine Unit, Village of Silver Lake Fire Department, Town of Salem Fire Department, and Town of Randall Fire Department.
Spoor was reported missing by family on Tuesday. His unoccupied boat was found on Silver Lake, along with his vehicle in the village.
Fire department and law enforcement personnel searched for Spoor from about 10:30 p.m., Tuesday until 2 a.m. Wednesday and then resumed searching from 8 a.m. to about 8 p.m. Wednesday.
UPDATE 1:55 p.m. — County Dive Teams members toned out to respond to the Silver Lake village boat launch, non-emergency response.

This from Eric Haak:
Shortly before 0900 hrs on Saturday, November 30th, Chicago’s Main Fire Alarm Office received a call of a person in the water at the Humboldt Park Lagoon. Squad 2 was returning from being held on a working fire response and as the MFAO was dispatching them, they received information that it was an over zealous dog who had chased a flock of geese and not a person. Battalion 12 and Engine 57 reported on scene with Truck 36 and confirmed that they had a dog about 25 feet from shore in about 5 feet of water (according to fishing depth charts I checked out on-line). Squad 2 had members suited up as they arrived and proceeded to make the rescue. As Squad 2’s member got ready to lasso the pooch with a life preserver, the dog decided he had enough and began to swim in towards his waiting rescuer. At this point, Squad 2’s member abandoned the life preserver and grabbed the dog by the collar. For a brief moment, the dog’s weight broke the ice and caused it to go under, almost causing the CFD member to take a complete dip in the icy water. However, the dog was quickly wrangled in, lifted out of the water and made a quick run to it’s owner. The dog looked a little sheepish as it climbed into a CPD squad who took the owner and her dog home.
