This from Josh Boyajian:
LaGrange Park had a box alarm this afternoon, it looked like they had a power line fall and caught a house and a garage across the street from each other on fire. There was mutual aid from all over including a new battalion buggy from Tri-State and Bellwood’s new tower ladder. I took a few pictures but all the fire was knocked.

Departments from La Grange; Oak Brook, North Riverside; Pleasantview; Bellwood; Hinsdale; and Westmont were in the scene.

Mutual and auto aid may have worked at first but now it is just a way for towns to cut manpower and rob peter to pay paul. What needs to happen is a consolidation of services with a lot of demotions of chiefs back on fire suppression vehicles. The days of every town having a battalion chief is over. The duplication of services is ridiculous.
Kevin K- I don’t think any department can handle a major incident outside of a few major cities.

Sorry…I should clarify. My commented was directed at the first Mike…with his unhealthy obsession with Tri-State radio communications.
As far as the second Mike…I agree. We all know that MABAS 10 departments are (on the whole) not prepared to handle a major incident on their own, and the need for auto aid and mutual aid is certainly there. However, there is something to be said for conserving resources.

With fire departments having to do more with less manpower, YOU never know what you are going to have when you get on the scene. What if both those buildings were fully involved with people trapped inside. You would be thankful to have all those towns sending equipment to help you out. That didnt happen this time, but what about next time.

Mike….I urge you to get psychiatric assistance. Either that or just get the **** over it!

The fire was out in 25 minutes, but we have all these departments responding and wasting resources. This whole Mabas 10 imat response is out of hand, there are more chiefs responding than fire companies. I know it’s better to have help coming that you don’t need, but come on! let’s rush to the scene and sit in staging, while our town sits unprotected.
