Wow. Pretty sad that the staffing levels are that dangerously low. The wealthy area residents rather play Russian Roulette with their fire departments such as being content with the bare minimum instead of requesting the right staffing levels.

They stopped running 2 guys at station 2 several years ago. They did that only when someone called in sick. As for car accidents, station 1 will handle any in their district with the manpower at station 1. depending on the staffing, the shift commander may be on the engine. For accidents in 2 or 3’s district, the engine will come out of station 1 while the ambulance will come from the still district station. Manning the engine or tower from station 1 depends on whether its a commercial or residential response.

Bill welcome to lake county manning. Where most departments in lake county are understaffed due to chiefs being undereducated. Most departments in lake county either run 2 man companies or 2 or 3 man jump companies with the exception of Waukegan and Gurnee. Libertyville runs as follows:
Station 1 2 man ambo, 2 man engine / tower or all 4 go and 1 BC
Station 2 3 man jump company, for a while they were only running 2 people.
Station 3 3 man jump company. All the taxes the people in Libertyville pay and this is the garbage staffing they get. Just like lake forest: 2 man companies, highland park: 2 man companies, mundelien: 2 man companies, countryside switches between 2 and 3 man companies. Lake Zurich 4 3 person jump companies, fox lake 2 man jump companies,
The whole county is stuck in the 1970’s and nothing is going to change.

I’m glad you mentioned the extended roof because the rig looks like 2 boxes separated by a pump panel on chassis. It is definitely a unusual looking rig and it sticks out like a sore thumb. I saw the recent constuction photos of the rig while it was still at the Pierce factory and I too also wonder why the Hose Bed’s are so high. I suppose that they had there reason for specing the rig that way. It is a tanker because why elso would they put the hosebed so high on the Body? I really wonder how they operate their fire department because I understand that the station manning is pretty poor especially at Stations 2 and 3. I had heard that both Stations 2 and 3 on run with 3 people on duty for both their fire company and their Ambulances which seems to me that when they get a run either the fire company goes or the Ambulance goes but not both. At least with 4 people on duty (like in Highland Park) they can run with 2 people on the Ambulance and 2 on the Engine. I wonder who they dispatch if they get a call for an accident with a fire or possible entrapment. Do they send the Engine or do they send the Ambulance first due and then for the next due company they would have sent it it from another station just to get 2 pieces of equipment on the scene.
I undestand that Station1 on Milwaukee avenue ( headquarters runs with 4 to 6 people on duty as they also run with a Tower Ladder as well as an Ambulance and a Engine. Even 4 to 6 people is not really enough for 3 companies depending on how many people are actually on duty. For example how often do they actually have 6 people on duty and does that include the duty Chief or is the Cheif counted separately? If there are 4 men on duty then that puts 2 men on the Ambulance and then 2 men on either the Engine or the Tower Ladder but not both and that is not adequate if you should get working structure fire so they probably would need to get automatic aide if they were to get a working structure fire.
I am curious if anyone here knows what their normal stucture fire or even accident dispatches are and if they are more likely to be running with 4 or with 6 men on duty at Station 1 because it really doesn’t sound like enough people for a serious incident/

I’m assuming that it is raised like that to protect a telescoping light tower?

What’s going on with the extended roof?
