You used go out East and see just about every color you can thing of now that can be seen all across the country………

$50,000 to see one depts fire trucks, Um……So you can speak for all pbg firemen on the color of their trucks??? You clearly don’t understand what I’m saying by wannabe. It’s a similarity, close enough that they look like airport rigs. Also, the Urbana guys LOVE the color of their rigs. It’s not a take it or leave it. It’s this way or no way. I’ve spent no money seeing fire trucks.

local guy no i have not seen the urbana truck in person the difference between urbana and palm beach gardens is i bet the ff in urbana can take the color or leave it while pbg the ff love this color because it is about safety and no it is not a wanne be color for airports because airports don’t even have this color but like i said b4 thats your opinion and i said my opinion and if i did not like pbg color i would not have spent about 50 000 dollars since august 2015 to see there rigs and by the way they are a very wealthy dept

I saw a few rigs on some west coast apparatus site. San Francisco had some burgundy rigs. Perhaps they still do I’ll have to look. Color is important since you pay tons of money for a rig, you may as well have it look decent instead of plain white with black lettering like a municipal dump truck or street sweeper.
But I guess no matter what color is spec’d, someone is going to hate it.
#5 by Localguy on April 5, 2022 - 11:18 AM
And I’m sorry they pay extra for that color. Harry, I don’t have any idea who you are. I read your comments on here and understand you know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING. One question, are you a buff or a wacker???
#6 by Localguy on April 5, 2022 - 11:14 AM
Well Harry, as per usual, I said Palm Beach Gardens is a “wannabe” airport rig. Also, have you seen an Urbana rig in person? Way different in person than in a picture.

I’m partial to Gary FD’s Perry Blue over red.
#8 by John on April 4, 2022 - 8:29 PM
Localguy, “Urbana red Is close to the old ALF red, which is close to maroon. When I lived in Urbana, they had a couple of ALF 900 series with this, and somebody must have liked it. I like the color.

I believe Urbana has had that deep red for quite a long time. I recall seeing their 60s and 70s American LaFrance engines and Seagrave truck in that color.
#10 by harry on April 4, 2022 - 6:50 PM
well localguy as u stated about palm beach gardens there color is not even close to any anyport rig it way brighter and cost a lot more as for urbana that is ugly as heck
#11 by Localguy on April 4, 2022 - 4:23 PM
Who gives a sh*t what color it is. Will it get me to the call and pump water? Yes!! Ok, I’ll ride on it. Whether you’re in Palm Beach Gardens riding around on an airport wannabe or in Chicago with black over red. You wanna see a unique color? I’ve seen a few Urbana Illinois trucks on here and in person. Look at their trucks. It’s original to them and UFD is where that color started. It was done by mistake. Actually called Urbana red at pierce. (when they were buying pierce). A few depts have copied it.

Andy you’re right. Willow did have a black tower, bought for the fire dept. by a developer. They didn’t have it very long, not sure why.
#13 by crabbymilton on April 4, 2022 - 7:27 AM
Oh I know there are many out there. JACK DANIELS fire department has them.
Any color your sick mind can imagine can probably be had.
#14 by Andy on April 4, 2022 - 7:02 AM
Crabby,
It’s been done. Years ago, the early 2000’s Willow Springs had an all black E-One 100′ stick.
#15 by Mike C on April 4, 2022 - 6:32 AM
There is a lot more to fire apparatus than the color that makes it unique, Hairy!
#16 by crabbymilton on April 4, 2022 - 6:23 AM
All of this color controversy could be solved if just one dept. in the greater region would just order solid black. BTW, I do like the Chicago look including the green light on the officer side.

Thanks for your colorful insight Harrry.
#18 by harry on April 3, 2022 - 6:14 PM
tim while u have your opinion and i have mine and that is fine but i truly will say palm beach gardens fl has the best bright green color and to them it is about safety not tradition but yes red is fine from time to time but for me unique in design or color is what will get me to come like crestwood has or had a 2002 style ram 1500 pu or back in the day franklin pk had a dodge similar to sqd 51 from emergency or like clarendon hills color is sharp
#19 by Tim on April 3, 2022 - 5:39 PM
Sorry Harrry puke green isn’t exciting. Black is ok, but come down to the south suburbs and we can treat you to ALL red….Palos Heights, Orland, Alsip, Northwest Homer. An island of red in a sea of black over red, if you will.
#20 by harry on April 3, 2022 - 4:52 PM
tim thats because the best fire appratus are mt horeb wi palm beach gardens fl and the entire east coast all others are just basic colors they do the job but not exciting
#21 by Tim on April 3, 2022 - 2:46 PM
Too much white over red and black over red. Not many depts. are solid red anymore.
#22 by Mike hellmuth on April 3, 2022 - 12:12 PM
Here in Bourbonnais they went from original red to yellow and then black over red starting with the three Pierces and the Seagrave which is the newest
#23 by harry on April 3, 2022 - 11:30 AM
melrose pk il is getting an enforcer engine and niles il is getting an enforcer engine in a few years
#24 by Drew Smith on April 3, 2022 - 10:47 AM
Their neighbor Geneva has had black over red for more than 40, maybe 50, years.
#25 by Austin on April 3, 2022 - 9:37 AM
I’m an idiot and haven’t had enough coffee. This is for the new truck, not an engine. So ignore that question.
#26 by Austin on April 3, 2022 - 9:36 AM
Mike, STC has had this paint scheme for nearly 20 years at this point. But yes, clearly they got the inspiration from Chicago.
Is this the 4th Pierce engine for them?
#27 by Mike hellmuth on April 3, 2022 - 8:56 AM
I wonder what percentage of new apparatus built across the country have the classic Chicago color combination?
#28 by harry on April 2, 2022 - 8:32 PM
love it with the rollup painted red it pops out
#29 by Bill on April 2, 2022 - 3:32 PM
Maybe prior to completion
#30 by Tim on April 2, 2022 - 2:22 PM
I would have had half the roll up painted black too.
