Pierce definitely doesn’t live rent free on my end. Pierce is my job security. I think for those who don’t know me don’t realize that I’ve worked on just about every brand of fire apparatus throughout my nearly 2 decades in the industry as an EVT. I am in full understanding that Pierce sells far more apparatus than other builders, but I’m also well aware of the quality or there lack of. I think that most Pierce buyers are appealed to the broad product line and all of the latest innovations. Pierce is great at innovating and creating new ideas, but there is a long history of low quality. Anyone who truly knows fire apparatus, can attest to this.

Pierce is living rent free in Mike C’s head. Can you imagine being so distraught that you’ve got to bash every department that buys a Pierce rig? Insinuating with each post that the Department, Its Members and their respective Vehicle Committees are morons for purchasing said vehicle. I wonder what type of car Mike C drives? I wonder if he has done the same due diligence in researching the manufacturer and recall history of his personal vehicle as much as he does Pierce.

Mike p. – What is there to justify? I don’t think my first comment was opinionated. Truck 101 has spent significant time out of service for maintenance/repairs. The torque box had rust on it a few years ago. Pierce pushed back on repairing or addressing this issue until they found out St. Charles was looking to purchase a few new engines. I’m not trying to stir the pot, the fact is, Truck 101 hasn’t served the city well.
Pierce failures over the past 5 years:
– The Dash CF chassis was improperly engineered leading to overheating issues and ultimately, discontinuing this chassis due to poor design.
– The Ascendant ladders were recalled shortly after their release due to major structural/integrity issues with the ladder.
– The Command Zone had a recall due to ladders moving without the operator’s command and leading to ladders colliding with buildings or other objects.
– The TAK-4 front suspension has had multiple recalls, some as serious where wheels fell off while the fire apparatus was in motion.
– Pierce has had hundreds of pieces of fire apparatus with heavy frame rail corrosion. Pierce indirectly acknowledges they have a problem with biodegradable frame rails by announcing all frame rails going forward will have E-Coat Corrosion Protection.

Mike C. Who are you and where are you getting your information? You are not member of this department as i am. Everyone is entitled their opinion, however how are you justifying this?

I’m not mad, I just think it’s flat out foolish for them to purchase this after the 2009 Arrow XT Ladder has been a unreliable and biodegradable mess. In addition, they have 3 Dash CF chassis’ which was a really nice concept that ultimately, flopped due to a major engineering flaw.

Uh Oh. Mike C is gonna get mad. I would rather see more SEAGRAVE anyway.

I would tend to agree. They have had that Seagrave for well over 10 years. It was in reserve when I did my paramedic cliniical/internship back in 2012.
