Excerpts from Evanstonnow.com:
Evanston Firefighters found smoke coming from the roof and windows of a residence at 1017 Mulford St. when they arrived on the scene about 4:25 p.m. Wednesday 11/20/19.
As the first crews arrived on scene, they determined that the fire was in the first floor kitchen and was already extending into the second floor through a void space. None of the residents were at home, but a dog perished due to smoke inhalation.
Evanston fire companies were assisted by neighboring communities in both handling the fire as well as providing fire and EMS coverage for the remainder of the city during the incident.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
