Bill you are correct on both assumptions. It is way to big for the town. Also a ton of maintenance problems with it. As for set up it doesn’t take any longer then setting up any other truck.

I would say with more and more depts. hurting it makes a lot more sense to likely have a 75ft quint or the ascendant 107 ft because then u have a truck or engine which I know is called a quint
I know franklin pk suggested to elmwod pk to get a straight stick and ep insisted on the bronto but now they also have had 1 or 2 chiefs since 2006

It turns out that Elmwood Park’s Bronto Skylift really wasn’t that new considering it is 13 years old however most fire departments tend to keep their aerial apparatus for 15 to 20 years. Something tells me that Elmwood Park wasn’t too happy with it otherwise they wouldn’t be replacing it with a tower ladder.
I heard that some fire departments thought it took too long to set up. It is a good looking apparatus though. You can see that it is quite large and bulky so I wouldn’t be surprised if they found the rig too large for some of their side streets. I was wondering if Elmwood Park was having maintenance troubles with the rig or whether they just found it too cumbersome for their needs?
Phoenix, AZ is one of the few big city departments that uses a Bronto Sky-lift. Their current one is a 114-foot on a 2006 E/One chassis. They also have a method that helps keep the wear and tear to their aerial apparatus to a minimum. All of Phoenix’s ladder companies are assigned a ladder tender, a medium sized rescue squad. It has grounds ladders, truck, and squad equipment. The company officer has the option of responding with the tender instead of the truck to a non fire emergency. That means each ladder company has two apparatus assigned. If they are on the street with their tender and they get a structure fire, they respond in the tender. They have to send a second ladder company from further away if an aerial device is needed unless the company is near their quarters and can change rigs before going to the fire.

946 is still front line until the new quint is placed in service. Once the new quint is placed in service 946 will be kept as a reserve out of station 1.

Sebastian if u read the post right it says a lot of the ff near Elmwood pk say it is black but clearly it looks grey or silver
and as for the rig being the ascendant I don’t know for sure but I bet more than likely because the fact they love the pierce engine they have and also the old pierce engine is a 1994
the ascendant would be the best choice as for ladder size but for outriggers eone would be better but time will tell and this has been for sale for months now because it was listed on one of my fb groups

It is a gray roof. All of Elmwood Park’s rigs have a gray top except engine 946 which is a 1992 and the new command car 949. 945 will be replaced with a single axle stick. A manufacturer has not been determined yet.

several ff near Elmwood pk tell me that is a black roof but it looks grey or silver to me
