Fox Lake Fire Protection District news

Excerpts from the DailyHerald.com:

Two residences in Fox Lake were damaged by separate fires on Sunday.

Firefighters responded at about 4:55 p.m. to a fire on the 0-100 block of East Grand Avenue and had to cut open a section of wall about four feet high and eight feet long. The area has commercial units in front and residential units in the back. The fire started in a storage/utility room in the residential area; one dwelling suffered fire damage and another smoke damage.

A residence on the 7300 block of Dunwood Court in the Leisure Village retirement community was rendered uninhabitable after a fire in the attic, Connelly. Firefighters responded to the call at about 6:47 p.m. after residents saw smoke coming through a bathroom ceiling vent. Crews entered the attic to fight the fire and also had to break through the ceiling of two bedrooms and a hallway.

No one was injured and the cause of both fires remains under investigation.

Glen Carbon Fire Protection District news

Excerpts from the intelligencer.com:

Glen Carbon Fire Protection District officials, EMTs and others watched Friday as a backhoe tore into the west side of its former Firehouse No. 1 on Main Street. Eclipsed by its almost-ready replacement that is five times larger, the smaller structure, finished in 1957, came down in chunks that were transferred to waiting dump trucks.

Ground was broken for the new station, 199 N. Main Street in August. Fire Chief Ralph Well has said the building is vital for the ever-growing fire protection district.
