chief drew when it is time maybe u could buy a quint to replace the ladder and engine
or buy a newer truck
or look at leasing a ladder because the dept in florida that I love palm beach gardens leases all city vehicles and they have told me it is cheaper just a though

Prospect Heights is currently evaluating two proposals for a replacement Engine 39, the 2001 Alexis/ALF. One proposal is from Alexis and the other Marion. Pierce declined to submit a proposal. Three other vendors were sent the RFP but did not submit a proposal or letter declining. 12 vendors were sent an invitation to present thier product before the RFP was let out and five did so.
Regarding Tower 9, the 1993 Pierce, which is now 26 years old. We are spending roughly 2-3 percent of its replacement value each year in maintenance and repairs. We would like to replace it but our capital fund was greatly impacted by the 2009 recession and so funds are not presently available. We have applied for grant but no success there. The current T9 has corrosion and rust issues that would cost well over $100,000 to repair so we wont do that due to the age of the apparatus. New is the only solution. We have also considered using auto aid for our truck needs but response distances, staffing at those AA FDs, and the lack of reserve trucks at those AA FDs ruled that out for now.
As an FD that jumps companies, my goal is to reduce that as much as possible and hopefully eliminate it (although the airport crash truck will remain a jump). Fewer rigs mean less time spent maintaining them (although overall maintenance costs will likely not decrease), training on them, insuring them, and more space in our already full firehouse bays.

Prospect Heights had its 2006 and 2007 MedTec Type III ambulances remounted onto 2018 Ford E-Series chassis by Foster Coach of Sterling, IL. We are over a year into running them and the members are very happy with them. You’d never know they were remounts unless you read the paperwork. We paid about $136,000 per ambulance compared with roughly $250,000 per the Northwest Municipal Conference’s joint purchase program. We have a third ambulance, a 2009 Ford/MedTec, and we’re planning on remounting it in a few years.

Chief Al that is a great decision by you guys to try this. 60,000 is still a lot when it comes to savings. Hope this works out for you guys. The boxes always seem to do well. It’s the chassis that never last long anymore.

This was the reserve ambulance that was on an International. The cost is right around 60k less than a new one. The committee really liked the factory and thought it was worth a try.
