This from Mike Summa:
I do not know anything about this fire truck. I found it on a website called “I grew up in Midlothian.” What I do know is that firemen and kids have not changed. The dates may change, but firemen are always firemen and kids, well they are always aspiring firemen. Enjoy and comment.Mike Summa

Great story Crabby.
I remember going to the fire station in St. Charles in Kindergarten (only one station back then). I loved being right up to the engine and looking around. A the time I didn’t know anything about apparatus, let alone who made them. I know it was Seagrave now, as that’s all St. Charles bought at the time. However I do remember learning the difference between all of them. There was a engine, a tanker, and a squad. I can’t remember if there was a ladder or not. Hard to believe it was 30 years ago.

Timeless indeed. I remember in late 1969 when I was in Kindergarten, we went to an MFD station(the old Engine 32 Ladder 9 on 39th and Vliet).
We toured the station and watched them come down the poll. Each of us had a turn ringing the bell on the ladder. I can’t for the life of me recall which apparatus were in service at the time they had a late 1940’s MACK pumper I think at the time. Hey that was almost 50 years ago.
Then they had us go outside and then the doors open and they were in their turnout gear and posed as if they were ready to respond. Gee those sirens were loud but I for some reason didn’t cover my ears. Perhaps I was destined to be a fire truck nut. 🙂
