This from Brian P. Kazmierzak:
While on my way to O’Hare Airport the other day, I took a side trip off the Dan Ryan to Al’s Beef and to drive by the old quarters of Engine 61/Ambulance 36 (5349 S. Wabash). I spent a lot of time “fanning” in that firehouse from 1993-1999. The firehouse, which was last in-service as EMS South before they moved to the new Engine 16’s quarters, has been given to the African American Firefighters Museum. There are some pretty neat historic graphic stickers on the window. Here are a couple photos.

They were not happy with Engine 100 because they felt it would be forever associated with the “retirement party” video tape from about 25 years ago that surfaced in the media about 20 years ago. I am sure that parking (Engine 100 was on a sides stree), the small apparatus floor, and the fact that is was older, were also factors. At the time, I am sure they, as well as many others, did not forsee Engine 61 going out of service and the house being avalible. Also, Engine 61 was declared a landmark by the city and it’s resale value to the city was probably very limited.

I thought E100’s old house was going to be used for this.
