The Highland Park Fire Department will be celebrating our 125th Anniversary this year. The mayor has dedicated this year’s 4th of July parade to the fire department. The theme of our parade will be the progression of the fire service. With that being said, we are reaching out to all of you in search of antique fire apparatus (staff cars, ambulances, engines, trucks etc…) to participate. Our thought is to have all antique vehicles at the beginning of the parade followed by today’s modern apparatus. Apparatus will be lining up for the parade at 0930 hrs with the parade starting at 1000 hrs. The fire department is leading the parade and we estimate it will last no longer than 30 minutes.
If you have any vehicles that can participate, new or old, it would be greatly appreciated. If you can help, please contact me or Executive Assistant Terrie Jarosz using the information listed below.

Ok Thanks, are Highland Park firefighters unionized? I know when the Police tried to join the teamsters it raised allot of controversy, and the residents hated it. I just wish people gave a damn about there Police and Fire Departments.

They’re running with 2 man companies because the village is to cheap to add the 3rd man and the chiefs are to spineless to argue for the spot. The truck was staffed up till a few years ago when positions stopped getting filled as people retired. Just like all the other rigs it was only staffed with 2.

I have a question regarding the history of the Highland Park Fire Department.
When did they start running with 2 man companies? I know that at the very least that they have been running 2 man Engines since at least 1989 and probably longer then that. How were the reductions in manpower made? Was it done all at once (by eliminating the 3rd man) or was it done gradually by eliminating the 3rd man one company at a time? Did the Truck ever run in full time service?
Was Highland Park ever lucky enough to run with 4 man companies (let alone 3 man companies)?
