2-Alarm fire in Deer Park, IL 10-3-13

This from Larry Shapiro:

The Lake Zurich FD received a call at 5:30AM reporting flames from a large house in Deer Park. The home, which has been vacant for several years had fire showing from the flat roof on arrival of the first companies. Located in an area without hydrants, a tanker shuttle was initiated after the first-due engine attempted to hit the fire with tank water via the deck gun.

A 2nd alarm was requested for additional tankers. large diameter hose was dropped from Cuba Road to the house, spanning the better part of a block. Fire damaged the roof and attic.

Hometown Fire Protection District 63rd Anniversary

This from Larry Nevels:

Just a note of information you might want to share, the Hometown Fire Protection District was created on October 3, 1950. A referendum was held by the residents of Hometown to create the Fire District. The vote was 139 in favor and 1 against. Cook County Judge Edmund K. Jarecki certified the election and signed the order creating the Hometown Fire Protection District on this date in 1950.

The Fire District was served by volunteers until 2009. The station is now staffed with a crew of 4 firefighters 24/7. We just received approval from Advocate Christ Medical Center to offer ALS service January 1,2014. 63 years of service to the City of Hometown and still going strong!

Carol Stream Still Alarm 10-2-13

This from Larry Shapiro:

I was at Carol Stream when a reported house fire came in and responded with the companies. The police reported smoke showing. Carol Stream Battalion 28 confirmed light smoke at 409 Thunderbird Trail which was within a mile’s drive of Station 28.

Companies handled a small fire with a pump can. The call was dispatched shortly after shift change which accounts for the firefighters that were not in gear helping the on-duty crews.

Here are a few images from the scene with a brief video.
