I too understand that the military side of O’Hare has been closed for some time. Many of the structures have been razed and the ones that remain are being used by the city for airport operations functions. There is a gate to the air cargo ramp and when we go to use the burn pit we enter via this gate with CFD escort.
My comments about red ARFF vehicles of the USAF were generalized and not directed at any specific base. Here is a link and photo of some new deliveries to the USAF.

Ok it was my understanding from working up there, the military side of O’Hare has been gone for sometime. So what rigs are white over red?
#9 by danny on August 12, 2012 - 11:50 PM
drew is referencing US Air Force fire crash rigs
#10 by Dennis on August 12, 2012 - 4:27 PM
@Drew what rigs at either airport are white over red?
#11 by Drew Smith on August 12, 2012 - 2:56 PM
The FAA requirement for the lime yellow paint applies only to ARFF vehicles puchased with airport improvement funds from the federal government. If UASI funds are used or the city self-funds the requirement would not apply. None of the ARFF vehicles purchased by the USAF in the past few years are lime yellow. All have been red with a white can roof.

Hi guys any word on who the new aerials are being assigned to thank you.
#13 by Dennis on August 11, 2012 - 5:20 PM
@Kevin K. Rumor is that 5-1-2 will be getting a new rig which would include it being painted the FAA colors.
@Martin they wont just buy 1 suv to replaced a wrecked one, they will just run with a spare until the city orders more.
Update on Engine 16’s new house: Set to open around August 15th.

Any word on a new suv to replace the one that rolled over a few months ago.

Any idea if 5-1-2 will be repainted to conform to the FAA ground vehicle standard, now that it’s at O’Hare?
