Images and video from John Tulipano of Cicero’s 4-Alarm warehouse fire

The fire originated at 1829 54th Avenue and communicated to 1843 54th Avenue. Over the period of less than an hour, it was upgraded to 4 alarms and then there was a special call for assistance from Chicago and a Task Force from MABAS Division 20.

Video shot approximately 21:30 hours, about 3 hours after the first alarm.

This is the first of what will be several posts covering the massive fire in Cicero Tuesday night.

Here’s a quick synopsis: The fire originated at 1829 54th Avenue and communicated to 1843 54th Avenue. Over the period of less than an hour, it was upgraded to 4 alarms and then there was a special call for assistance from Chicago and a Task Force from MABAS Division 20.

Just for reference, the first photo is the first one I took. Shots 4 and 5 are the heavy fire conditions blowing out the sector 4 side of the building about 10 minutes after that first picture was taken. Pictures 6, 7 and 8 are all Oak Park’s tower working the sector 2/3 corner. Picture 3 shows Cicero engine 1 working it’s deck gun which they only did for a few minutes.

Cicero Companies were dispatched to a reported structure fire @ 5742 w. 24th Street this afternoon. While En-route the chief confirmed he had a fire. First in companies reported fire blowing out of the 2nd floor on arrival. Engine 2 dropped a 2-1/2 to the rear while Truck 2 laddered the front of the building. Here are some of my pictures.

a 2013 Ford F-350 Wheeled Coach ambulance has been completed and will be on display at FRI this weekend

Bensenville FPD

a 2013 Ford F-450 Wheeled Coach ambulance has been purchased and will be delivered by the end of the month

Cicero

a Pierce Dash CF pumper is being built and will be delivered in February

Bolingbrook

Has approved the purchase of two new units:

a Pierce Dash CF ladder truck
Pierce Impel engine

Chicago Ridge

a 2014 Road Rescue medium-duty ambulance on a TerraStar chassis

Wilmette

a 2013 E-One E-Max pumper will be delivered in the next few months
a 2013 Ford F-450 squad is being built at Warner Bodies and will be delivered in the next few months

Northfield

a 2013 E-One engine is being built on a Cyclone chassis which should be done by end of year

Broadview

2013 E-One pumper has been ordered. Unknown on the specs

Westchester

2013 E-One 21? custom, walk-around rescue on a Typhoon chassis is being built and will be delivered by end of year.

Palos Heights FPD

2013 E-One pumper has been ordered, unknown specs at this time.

Gurnee

2013 Ford F-450 Road Rescue Ultramedic Type I is being built and should be completed by the end of the year

Joliet

Their two new engines are completed and ready to be delivered if they weren’t already

Chicago

Fire Service Inc. is pleased to announce a multi-year contract with the City of Chicago for airport pumpers. The initial order is for three units. The new units will be E-One Cyclone custom chassis with 2000 GPM Hale pump, Fecon foam system, 1000 gallon water tank and 250 gallon foam tanks with Salisbury Stainless Steel bodies. We look forward to bringing back the E-One product family to the third largest city in the United States.

This from Larry Shapiro:

The Cicero Fire Department has placed an order with Pierce for a Dash PUC engine that is expected in February. It will replace Engine 3, a 1999 Pierce Saber.

Cicero also has a relatively new command buggy in service as F12.

Metro Paramedic Services, part of Superior Ambulance, who provides EMS for Cicero has placed a new ambulance at the headquarters station. It was built by Demers Ambulances (a Canadian builder) in 2012 on a 2011 Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis. The new F10 is expected to be placed in service shortly.

I remember this was 2 or 3 frames … the white Grove aerial was one of two white rigs they had as I recall … another was a Ford COE engine …
