Commercial building fire in Harvey, 11-16-19

This from Eric Haak:

The Harvey Fire Department responded to the report of a commercial building fire in the 15400 block of Broadway in the early morning hours of November 16th.  The fire was in a truss roof warehouse and communicated to a 2-story apartments over commercial building.  The blaze was elevated to a MABAS box and these images were taken hours into the incident as companies were defensive on the original building early on.

Three killed in crash in Posen, 12-15-16

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

Three female passengers were killed and two people were injured early Thursday in a crash in south suburban Posen, according police chief Doug Hoglund.

Hoglund believes speed and alcohol contributed to the crash, which happened about 3 a.m. in the 14300 block of Harrison Avenue. The dead and injured were all in one car that crashed into several parked cars on the residential block. The parked cars sustained extensive damage. Harrison Avenue is a residential block with a speed limit of 20 mph.

All of the occupants in the car except the driver were ejected. A female passenger was in critical condition at a hospital and the male driver also was hospitalized, but Hoglund did not know his condition.

“We’re still trying to identify the people in the car,” the chief said about 10 a.m. “We haven’t contacted any family.”

Posen Fire Department news

Excerpts from the Chicagocitizen.com:

Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) Director Hugo Chaviano recently recognized the Posen Fire Department as the first public sector employer to achieve Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) status in Illinois.

“Posen FD is committed to incorporating health and safety measures across all parts of its work environment,” said IDOL Director Chaviano. “With its acceptance into SHARP, they are not only an example for other firefighters but also for the entire community.”

Last year, after an Illinois OSHA onsite consultation, the Posen FD implemented an enhanced, comprehensive health and safety program. Fire Chief Kevin Szewczyk led the department in updating its safety policies and putting in place additional preventative procedures.

“Workplace safety should be a top priority for both employers and employees,” IDOL Director Chaviano said. “I commend Posen FD’s leadership in safety and encourage employers across the state to take advantage of our on-site consultations.” Illinois OSHA, a division within IDOL, offers free and confidential safety and health onsite consultations for employers with up to 500 employees. After meeting certain requirements, employers can earn SHARP status, which exempts them from routine OSHA inspections during the period that the SHARP certification is valid.
