Photos from Tim Olk of a house fire Friday morning (2/7/20) on Dorian Drive in Northbrook.
The Palatine FD received multiple calls reporting a house on fire at 635 E. Thornhill Drive late Monday night (1/28/19). A header was visible while companies were en route and the response was upgraded to a Code 4 Working Fire. Arriving units found fire traveling up the outside of the house in the B-sector. The fire was extinguished quickly with minimal extension inside the house. All Palatine companies were at the scene plus an engine from Arlington Heights and a Buffalo Grove ambulance.
The North Maine FPD was sent to 9023 Terrace Place for a dryer fire Monday night just after 10PM. Upon arrival companies found a basement fire and the alarm was upgraded for the Working Fire. There was some extension to another unit in the four-unit townhouse and a MABAS Box Alarm was requested. The fire was extinguished shortly thereafter and some of the additional companies were returned.
Units at the scene included North Maine Battalion 1, Ambulance 1, and Engine 1; Des Plaines Battalion 61, Engine 61, Ambulance 61, and Tower 61; Niles Battalion 2, Engine 2, and Truck 2; Morton Grove Battalion 4 and Squad 4; Rosemont Truck 158 and Battalion 9; Mount Prospect Engine 13; Park Ridge Battalion 35; Glenview Ambulance 7 and Engine 7; and Northbrook Ambulance 10.

Wheeling firefighters responding for a report of smoke in an apartment found the outdoor electric box engulfed in flames on arrival. The call to 950 Lexington Court came in just after 3AM. As firefighters awaited the arrival of Com Ed, they stretched lines and evacuated the building. Approximately one hour on the scene, the box was de-energized. Water and then foam was used to extinguish the remaining fire. Power was rerouted and restored to the building and residents were then allowed back into their apartments.

This from Eric Haak:
It was a very busy early morning for southside companies on Monday (2/15). At approximately 1:30 there was a fatal pin-in accident at 85th and the Dan Ryan. Around the same time, Engine 49 landed at 43rd and Packers for an automatic alarm to find a light haze in an industrial building. This was eventually be elevated to a still and box with stacks of cardboard burning but being held in check by the sprinkler system. Companies were at that address for over three hours.
At 3:45 Engine 101 landed with a working fire at 76th and Artesian. One hour later there was another still and box at 5141 S. Princeton which is where these images were taken. Due to battalion chiefs being committed at both earlier fires, Battalion 7 was the still chief at this incident. There were several frozen hydrants and the fire did spread to the occupied home on the “D” side. The original fire building was a frame house that had been converted to a church. I could not confirm but I believe the spare is Engine 122. The other box engine was Engine 5.

Around 8 pm reports of a house on fire in the 2800 block of Glenarye Dr. in Lindenhurst began flooding FoxCom dispatch. Lake Villa FPD units arrived to find a large, two-story home well-involved. Companies went defensive and protected exposures on both sides. Mutual aid from Antioch, Gurnee, and Newport arrived to assist, but with a combination of the high winds, extreme cold temps, and the body of fire found on arrival, the home was a total loss. Exposures on either side recieved minor damage. Jeff Rudolph

Monday, at 14th just east of Laramie. Extreme cold conditions as well as falling snow. A very large frame-dwelling with a good volume of fire on the 2nd floor when the companies arrived. Apparently this building has been remodeled several times over the years making for very difficult firefighting conditions as the fire had spread to concealed spaces and voids. I arrived just as they were attempting to complete vertical ventilation as the fire rapidly advanced in the attic space. Eventually three aerial pipes and several handlines were operated. This was a rough job under some tough conditions.
