New engine for Cary FPD

This from Michael D. Douglass:

Here are a few pictures of our new Sutphen Engine 242 that’s currently being built.  It should arrive sometime in October.  This engine will replace our 2004 American LaFrance.  Once in service, this will be our 5th Sutphen apparatus (3 engines, 1 tower ladder and 1 squad).

New squad for Cary (update)

From Michael Douglass:

Here are some updated photos of our new squad that is being built at the SVI plant in Colorado.  Initially we were not expecting to receive the new squad until late summer or early fall, but it is well ahead of schedule and we are expecting it to be delivered at the end of May or early June.  The new squad is a SVI body on a Sutphen Ambassador chassis.  Our squad committee went last weekend to view the progress and these photos were taken by Deputy Chief Brad Delatorre.  There are more photos of the squad on the SVI website under the “watch your truck being built” link at:  www.svitrucks.com.

New squad for Cary FPD – update

This from Michael D. Douglass:

Hey guys some progress has been made on the new squad we have on order.  The squad is an SVI body on a Sutphen Ambassador chassis.  The chassis is scheduled to arrive at the SVI plant next week.  The plan is to have the squad completed by early fall, however as of right now they are ahead of schedule so it may be ready sooner.

Attached find a PDF of the preliminary graphics from SVI.  The graphics have been approved with the only exception being that the lettering will be done in gold leaf instead of the orange used in the graphic.  I have also attached a photo of the body sub frame and 6 photos on the fabrication from SVI.  These photos can also be viewed on SVI’s website under the “watch your truck being built” photo gallery area at:  www.svitrucks.com.

As I get additional updates I will send them to you.   Thanks.

Yours in Fire Safety,

Michael D. Douglass

Cary FPD orders new squad

Cary Fire has placed an order for a new squad.  The new squad will be a SVI body on a Sutphen Ambassador chassis.  Included are preliminary drawings for the new squad.  The drawings state the chassis is a Sutphen Monarch but that was changed to the Ambassador chassis.  If all goes well the new squad should be here in late summer or early fall 2014.  The new unit will replace our current Squad 255 which is a 1991 Alexis Body on a L8000 Ford chassis.  As I get updates I will send them to you.

New tender for Cary FPD

This from Michael Douglass, Lieutenant / Public Education & Information Officer , Cary Fire Protection District

I have some photos of our new tender to update the Chicago Area Fire website.  The tender is numbered 270 and runs out of our station #2.  Tender 270 has a Kenworth model T370 chassis with a 3,000-gallon water tank and a 500-gallon-per-minute pump.  One of the other features the new tender has is a rear camera for the driver to be able to watch what’s directly behind it. There one 3,000-gallon port-a-tank which allows us to dump all of the tank water so the tender can leave right away to re-fill. In the past, we had two 2,100-gallon tanks that had to be set up individually and then connected before the entire tank load could be dumped. We have a different configuration for supply hose and the pump panel is located behind a roll-up door in the body. As a result of these changes, less space was needed making the new tender approximately four feet shorter than the old one.  The new tender arrived in mid August and was put into service on August 30th.
