Northbrook firefighters were sent to 4040 Timberlane Drive in a section of unincorporated Cook County this afternoon (5/6/20) for reports of smoke from a house. An officer from the Cook County Sheriff’s Department arrived first and advised there were flames from the roof. This address is in the far southwest corner of Northbrook’s district close to the borders of Glenview, Wheeling, and Prospect Heights and the only hydrant for this several block long street is at the entrance at Sanders Road. This prompted a response from Prospect Heights FPD Tanker 9.
Northbrook Engine 10 was the first fire suppression company and laid 5″ hose from the hydrant to the house. Companies had an advanced attic fire and heavy smoke on arrival and the alarm was upgraded to a working fire bringing companies from Glenview and Wheeling in addition to all of the Northbrook units and Prospect Heights Tanker 9.
The fire was attacked with tank water until the water supply was established. It appeared that three lines were used to extinguish the fire. Northbrook Tower 12 ventilated the roof from their platform. Nobody was home at the time of the fire.
Wheeling firefighters responded to 900 Valley Stream Drive Monday morning for a reported basement fire. Upon arrival, smoke was seen and the alarm was upgraded to a working fire. A window on the bottom level of the split-level home blew out with flames,es and heavy smoke. Firefighters took two lines into the house and extinguished the fire quickly. Overhaul and wash down of both the interior and exterior was extensive. Units at the scene were Wheeling Engine 23, Engine 42, Truck 24, Ambulance 23, Ambulance 24, Battalion 24, and chief 2401. Automatic and mutual aid units were Buffalo Grove Tower 25, Prospect Heights Engine 39, Squad 9, Ambulance9, and Battalion 9, and Northbrook Ambulance 10.

The temperature was -6 with a -25 wind chill when this fire came in about 6:45 New Year’s Day. The home was heavily involved when the first company landed and frozen hydrants prompted a still and box alarm shortly after the arrival of the 15th Battalion chief. The structure was located near the intersection of 47th Street and Western Avenue. 15 people were displaced.
Buffalo Grove police and fire units were sent to 96 University Drive Saturday morning (9/9/17) just before 6:30 in the morning after reviewing reports from a passerby of smoke coming from the home. Police officers arrived first and began ringing the doorbell and banging on the doors in an attempt to wake the homeowners.
Arlington Heights Engine 4 and Buffalo Grove Tower 25 arrived within minutes and stretched a line to the front door before making entry. Smoke was escaping from the second floor, and the first floor was heavily charged with smoke as well. Thick smoke then pushed from the front door as it was breached.
The alarm was upgraded to the Code 4 for the working fire and two additional ambulances were requested to the scene when it was reported that three occupants might be inside the house.
Neighbors subsequently informed the police that the cars in the driveway did not belong to the homeowners and that a car that did belong to them was not present. Primary and secondary searches confirmed that the only inhabitants during the fire were two cats. Firefighters attempted to resuscitate the cats which did not survive.
