3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 6-7-19 (more)

This from Steve Redick 3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 6-7-19:

Took this in about 0400 Friday morning, a huge vacant department store. This was an anchor to the old Roseland neighborhood at one time. An unusual building in that it was on a hill. It looked like 2 stories in the front but was 3 stories in the rear, attached to a 5 story as well as numerous other commercial vacants. Windowless upper floors made stream penetration difficult at best. This was a long stand that resulted in the demolition of the fire buildings. I had my passport stamped twice on the way there .. .once at Madison St and again at 79th St. More photos are HERE.

3-11 Alarm fire and Haz Mat Level 1 in Chicago, 2-21-19 (more)

This from Steve Redick:

Took this in about 0515 Thursday. Very tough to get any decent images, the L tracks and heavy smoke covered the front. The one view of the rear and upwind was decent but badly arcing wires kept me from getting too close. It was a plating company so haz mat protocols were in place with some local evacuations. Nice to see the new TL5 working. TL10 had an old HME spare and operated very sparingly.

3-11 Alarm fire & EMS Plan I in Chicago, 4-25-18

This from radioman911.com:

4/25/18 CHICAGO – Fireground Radio Traffic from 3-11 Alarm/EMS Plan 1 High-Rise Fire 5 S. Wabash Ave. – Recording by RADIOMAN911.COM

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

Two firefighters were injured and two people were rescued when an extra-alarm fire broke out in a Jewelers Row building in the Loop Wednesday morning. One firefighter suffered a minor leg injury and the other became overheated while battling the blaze in the Mallers Building at 5 S. Wabash. Fire officials said both were transported to a hospital. Two men were rescued by ladder after they were seen tapping on a window to get firefighters’ attention.

The fire broke out shortly before 2 a.m. and was raised to a 3-11 alarm around 3 a.m. It was under control by 3:30 a.m. The 21-story Mallers Building was built in 1912 and is filled with more than 100 shops specializing in the design, manufacture and repair of jewelry. It was renovated in 1993.
