Excerpts from fox32chicago.com:
The mandatory retirement age for police and firefighters in Chicago may undergo a change as the Chicago City Council’s Committee on Police and Fire convened on Monday to discuss the possibility of raising the retirement age to 65.
Currently, the mandatory retirement age for these personnel is 63. While some opponents argue for lowering it to 60, proponents suggest that raising the age could help retain institutional knowledge and maintain staffing levels.

I took in a working fire in Markham last week at 16003 S Central Park Ave. First companies arrived on scene with heavy fire showing from the front and back of this place. Shortly thereafter, they went defensive and decided to let it go. I arrived about 30 minutes into the fire and this is what I found. Markham Engine 33 had a few lines off and was feeding Flossmoor’s tower ladder. Full gallery is HERE.

Buffalo Grove firefighters were called to 691 Checker Road at 8:30 Sunday evening (3-12-23) for a reported fire in a second floor bedroom. While en route, companies were advised by NWCD that a neighbor reported fire on the roof, and then another reported fire on the side of the house. Upon arrival, Battalion 4 reported heavy fire and requested the Code 4 upgrade. Buffalo Grove companies worked from the exterior and then the interior to knockdown the fire while performing searches throughout. They were assisted at the scene by units from Long Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Wheeling, Arlington Heights, Northbrook, and Buffalo Grove EMA with MobileComm.

This from Larry Shapiro:
After being dispatched to a working fire at an unknown address because of the volume of 911 calls into RED Center, firefighters from the North Maine FPD followed a header and travelled less than 1/2 mile to 9320 Noel Street in unincorporated Maine Township. They pulled up to heavy fire blowing out what was left of one unit of a four-unit, two-story apartment building. The entire front of the second unit from the street had been blown out. The alarm was upgraded to a Working Fire and then a MABAS Box Alarm, followed within minutes by an upgrade to the 2nd Alarm bringing units from as far away as Glencoe and Lincolnshire.
Multiple hand lines and three elevated master streams were used to battle the fire, the majority of which had been knocked down prior to my arrival.
