Subject: 5-11 Club Needs New CanteenI have been asked to forward a request from the 5-11 Club, who provides canteen and rehab services to the members of the Chicago Fire Department and other area departments.
If anyone knows of an available old ambulance or box truck, the 5-11 Club desperately needs to replace one of its canteen units – it is in dire shape. If you know of a unit that might be available to be donated, please contact Gary Altwasser at 773-965-5599.
Information on the 5-11 Club is viewable at http://www.5-11clubchicago.org/
Thank you,
Alan Wax

Pretty sure they want a DONATION. All these ideas of where to buy a vehicle is fine but those are going to cost them. 5-11 has always relied on donations and volunteer support. As it is even with a donation of a used vehicle there will be costs for converting it into a mobile Rehab unit.

Maybe try contacting the Frankfort and Lockport Fire Districts to inquire how and through who they puchased their special ops units. They have Freightliners and Workhorse Vans which are similar to what FedEx and Snap On Tools use. You can view their vehicles on this site for ideas.

Didn’t I read on here in the past month or so that Palatine was trying to get rid of an old dive van?

It was a private seller

UPS never sells their trucks to the public. They tend to run them for many years and then either scrap them or put them on a new chassis.
They’re funny like that with their image.
FEDEX may be worth contacting though or perhaps a bakery.

After Christmas, the 5-11 Club may want to reach-out to FedEx or UPS. They may have an older step van which they may wish to donate. Maybe someone reading my reply has connections with either carrier and can help expedite this. Just a thought.
