Fair enough Richard. I understand your position. Just remember the the extreme types define any movement. I’m not suggesting that your union is childish. I just oppose the principle and only have a problem because while it protects the good people, it also tends to protect the turds as well.

Milton,
Our firefighters Union, the AFFI/IAFF, not only protects our careers as far as our salaries, benefits, pensions, promotions and discipline which are defined under state and federal laws, but it also protects you the taxpayers. All the residents, businesses and visitors are protected by properly staffed, trained/educated and equipped fire departments. Like you, we depend on this to make a living and provide for our families because, as previously stated, our two faced politicians do not care about us. Also these private for profit contract companies do not care about their employees, only the income generated from supplying personnel to municipalities and fire districts.
I wish the best of luck to our brothers of North Riverside Local 2714.

Milton, please do not down play the importance of our Union. I’m one of the members still fighting for my job. If you’re happy where you’re at, great, but the only reseaon I still have a job is because of my Union and the laws that are in place. If I was an at will employee for a profit company such as PSI, I’d be out of a job. Local 2714 is fighting for all Union Fire Departments and future Union FFs. These part time polititians do not care about the 13 FFs they are trying to get rid of or our families. You may have seen childish Union tactics but I’ve seen political temper tantrums.

You can call them and me what you will. To keep this civil, we’ll just have to agree to disagree since you are pro union and I oppose the concept but we can agree that it’s unfortunate that things like this get to that point in the first place. All because voters don’t always pay attention to whom they vote for.

Would you prefer that I call them scabs, Milton? Because that was the FIRST version. They are just that – union busting scab assistants to a douchebag politician who has money for town bullshit but not for firefighter pensions, which they, like many Illinois cities, neglected to fund on an ongoing basis, and now when the bill comes due, their rational is to get rid of the guys they screwed in the first place by screwing them again. OUT OF A JOB.

I would try to do better and would rather do my own thinking and talking.
Take advantage of the ballot box next election.
I’ve seen too many childish union tactics over the decades but it’s your prerogative to join.

Try doing what better?

Let’s hear this one. I’m sure everyone would like to know the quick and simple solution to this.

Impressive looking rig.
So, I guess you have to belong to an union to not be considered a bum.
Guess what, I’m proud to be a bum!!! 🙂
With statements like that, it validates what I have thought about unions all of my life.

Your opinion would be different if your job was on the chopping block and you were going to be replaced with less qualified people just because a certain company made campaign contributions to a certain mayor.
#11 by Chuck on November 28, 2016 - 9:37 PM
Ah, a new apparatus for the nonunion bums the mayor wants for the citizens.
