This from Eric Haak:
I continue to drive past the fabrication shops hoping to catch a glimpse of the newly mounted deluge units. When I drove past on Saturday, 6-7-3 was now parked next to the building. It does appear to have had its canons partially removed. It also appears that this will be used to complete the second deluge unit that was reported on earlier.

FYI…There are two new Deluge Units that have been completed and awaiting to be placed into service. Truck 33 and Engine 49 were over there the day before pump testing them.

I would buy both those old chassis in a heart beat! They still run great (chevy’s ofcoarse) and they are both 4wd! I keep checking the city auction page but have only seen what I believe to be one of the old field officers expedition on it. I’ll bet they both have a lot of life left in them and they are a dream to work on anyway.

I really hope that they have a change of heart when it comes to 671 and that they put 671’s piping on a new chassis as well.
Aside from the expense of the chassis and cab, they really don’t have any additional manpower expenses as the deluge rigs are all cross manned when they are special called, so they are not creating a new company.
This last year’s experience has proven that even if they are used once every few years, it’s still worth having them available.
New York City has six large deluge guns in service (which are similar in shape and size to the ones on 671 except they are each mounted on one of their six satellite hose wagons. They have been remounted several times already.

One hopes (expects) that they completed the new 6-7-6 before starting on 6-7-3 so that both turret wagons are not OOS at the same time leaving the city with none.
