At this rate I would highly recommend the city to purchase from Spartan as well. Now before someone argues that they want “one manufacture.” Look at the current fleet. They still have a lot of Spartans in the fleet. Just my 2 cents, get more apparatus delivered and the fleet can be replaced at a better rate

What happened to TL23’s rig

Hairy it is sad and negligent on the administrations part that the fleet is in such disrepair. But historically the fleet has always been this way. Even when Quinn was the commissioner they would go years without buying apparatus and when they would make purchases it was usually low bid unspec’d apparatus. Also the new apparatus usually went to downtown companies because of the appearance, while everyone else was running junk. The difference now is CFD used to have the shops and now FM2 is responsible for “repair”. FDNY has apparatus replacement in their contract under safety. The other big issue plaguing CFD is the increase of accidents or parts failures placing newer apparatus out of service extended periods of time.

As of two days ago Tower 10 was also using a spare straight stick truck.

It is sad that cfd does not replace as well as they should while Boston is smaller than Chicago all there Frontline rigs are 2016-23 and reserves are fairly new some 16-18 NYC has a huge fleet but replaced very quick

TL23 is in the only working HME, TL24 has E316, TL21 and TL5 and in spare Pierce Trucks and I am unsure if TL16 is still using E315 or not. The other 2 spare HMEs are OOS at fleet along with the Alf (ex TL5). I am pretty sure all other towers are frontline right now. Please correct me if any of this is mistaken.

So what is the lineup for the Towers?? Anyone have a current list of whats in service and what Towers are running spares (23) (5?) etc thanks

Chicagoland Fire Photos and Colton – the only time something is 100% for the city is when the company is actually getting trained on the new rig, even then, someone somewhere could change it last minute…

When I stopped e 108 the guys on the tower were convinced they were getting a new rig soon. That was last week

Fleet looks at many items such as down time, hours, miles, maintenance costs to decide which rig gets replaced. Alderman and just politics in general absolutely play a factor as well. I can see Tower 54 getting the new E-One because it’s the first truck to Midway airport. Just because a company doesn’t have its current assigned rig doesn’t mean they automatedly are getting it. If that was the case Engine 122 should have gotten a new E-One before 108, 34, or 22. The days of the busy company’s getting new rigs every time have been over for a while, once the maintenance was taken from the FD.
It’s a wait and see situation, and just because it’s delivered with a number doesn’t mean it’s actually going there, look what happened Engine 50 and 92 E-Ones before.

But aren’t some of the rig assignments influenced by alderman?
#12 by Chicagoland fire photos on December 19, 2023 - 10:30 AM
I haven’t heard anything about that, its very unlikely that it would go to 54 as they have a working and operating frontline and Tower 23 does not. I know the city makes bad choices in its issuing of apparatus but I doubt they’ll be this dumb
#13 by Colton Latham on December 19, 2023 - 9:23 AM
I heard that there was a last minute change and the new tower was now going to 54. Can anyone confirm or disprove this for me? Can’t wait to see these new E-ones in service!

The tower is 100% going to 23 at this point. There is still 1 unassigned engine at this point as they have 6 total ordered and 5 have either been lettered or are in service (22, 34, 54, 75, 108), off of an educated guess I believe the 6th engine will either go to 101/122. If the city is smart they’ll reassign a good rig like 75’s 04 spartan and give 122 the new rig as they are busier.

Anyone know whos getting the TL? and is TL23 still using a spare>?
#16 by Danny on December 10, 2023 - 8:11 PM
As of 12 10 23. Engine 108 22 and 34 are in service and truck 7 was at fleet….. engine 54 and 75 went back to the dealer for work.

This round of deliveries are slow. They still have Engines and Trucks coming. I only saw Engine 22 in the new rig. I wonder if it’s EONE or the City? Why does it take so long to put them in service? Is the new Tower still scheduled to replace the Pierce still in service?

Craig, what your suggesting does happen on occasion but it’s a lot different opening the side door and crawling into the cab to grab the drug box that’s in the roll up compartment than just opening a door on the side and grabbing it and running but you do you man.
#19 by Craig Mack on December 8, 2023 - 12:01 PM
Yes…Cuz if someone wanted to steal EMS equipment from a fire truck, not having that door would totally stop them from just opening the unlocked door located directly next to it and stealing it through there….

You make a very good point Dennis. Hadn’t considered that but unfortunately that could be an issue.
#21 by Dennis on December 8, 2023 - 9:38 AM
Luke, those ” EMS Doors” were a very bad idea. Most of the engines keep the door locked because it’s so easy to open it and steal the equipment inside.
#22 by Luke Jackson on December 7, 2023 - 10:41 PM
Beautiful truck, can’t wait to see the rest. I’m surprised that this doesn’t have the outside door on the cab for the EMS compartment like the engines do.

Admin, you spelled truck wrong.
