Joe, one of the determining factors of what chassis will be used for what application is the engine size. Another factor is the emission aftertreatment system. Certain chassis won’t fit a big block or they won’t fit the emission system and the big radiators. There’s another round of EPA mandated emission nonsense coming with 2026-27 model year diesels. So that’s why manufacturers, especially Pierce, has introduced and then discontinued many chassis over the years.

It seems like Pierce has done this a couple times. They keep adding different chassis’s until they have too many and then discontinue the ones that are either maintenance issues or don’t sell well. Their website now shows that the Dash CF, Quantum and Arrow XT are not available. The Dash CF was a maintenance nightmare from what I have heard with the radiator mounted horizontal in the upper part of the body, the hydraulic driven fan and excessive amount of cooling line’s needed. The Quantum’s deliveries seem to have fallen off over the years. The Arrow XT was a good chassis, but very similar to the Enforcer, especially since they have the larger frame rails and big block motors available in the Enforcer now. Pierce got rid of the Enforcer and Dash somewhere around 2007-2010, then brought them back redesigned as the Dash CF and Enforcer. By looking at deliveries, it appears the Enforcer is outselling all the other chassis’s. I remember when we were designing an aerial the Arrow XT cab was 800lbs heavier then the Enforcer since the Arrow had 3/16” aluminum vs the Enforcer using 1/8” which required a heavier front axle. I am sure supply chain issues also played into the decision to cut down on the number of chassis choices.

While they can certainly make a good argument about having a wide selection of chassis, I think PIERCE had too many and often some overlap. The DASH CF had some problems with design and quality. I didn’t hear too many bad things about the QUANTUM but IMHO, I thought it was ugly especially the earlier versions. In some ways in reminds me of that HAHN SPANGLER DUAL. Perhaps that was the intention.

@Michael – The Dash’s are very well liked, The thought is using 2 different models for maintenance purposes.

If you only knew the amount of odometers that actually fail! They are replaced LEGALLY all the time!

Here is an article explaining it more.

The odometer is a device, you can change the device if its broken. The law says you cannot roll back the odometer which is in reference to the old mechanical odometers.

Libertyville had a full frame off refurbishment that when it was done the whole truck was pretty much new

There is nothing illegal about replacing an odometer. When you sell the vehicle on the IL title you make an odometer attestation that it is an accurate and true statement of mileage or declare it isn’t.

How on earth can you get away with replacing the Odometer legally? If it were a car, that would be fraud. I believe they also replaced the odometer on the Libertyville tower ladder.

I am guessing since they purchased another Quantum they are not happy with the Dash CF. I am guessing their new Quantum is one of the last Quantum’s Pierce is building. I am sure the Arrow XT tower Indy recently took delivery of will be one of the last Arrow XT’s that will be built.
