Chicago Fire Department news

Excerpts from wgntv.com:

The Chicago Fire Department Foundation is teaming up with local food pantries to get working smoke detectors to people who need them.

The program launched two years ago and is now working with eight local food pantries to get more smoke detectors in homes.

Nourishing Hope fights food insecurity in Chicago and provides the equivalent of four million meals every year.  The non-profit recently gave out 500 smoke detectors in less than a month through their online market.

In 2022, the program distributed 3,000 free smoke detectors through pantries. The fire department foundation says this year, it will surpass that number to help meet the critical needs of sustenance and safety.

Fatal crash in Kane County, 8-8-23

Excerpts from fox32chicago.com:

At about 5:18 a.m. on Tuesday, Kane County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Illinois Route 47 and Beith Road for a reported crash. When deputies arrived, they found a semi-truck in the southbound traffic lane of IL Rt 47 with a vehicle underneath the trailer that was engulfed in flames.

The semi-truck contained a dash camera, and upon review, it was determined that the semi traveling southbound on IL Rt 47 was passing through the intersection with Beith Road, when at the same time, a small pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Beith Road and ran a stop sign. The pickup truck then crashed underneath the semi’s trailer and immediately burst into flames.

The pickup truck driver became entrapped in his vehicle, which was underneath the semi-trailer, pinned sideways in front of the rear trailer axle. He died at the scene and has been identified as 49-year-old Juan J. Galvez of Maple Park.

The driver of the semi-truck had no injuries and was released at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
