This from Michael Maida:
There have been several postings on the website recently regarding the Peoria FD. I had an opportunity to go to there recently and was able to see some of what has been talked about. I stopped by Peoria Fire stations 3, 11, and 15. Station 3 is home to Engine 3 and Truck 3. Station 11 is home to Engine 11 and Rescue 1. Engine 11 and Rescue 1 are jump companies as are Engine 3 and Truck 3. They have a mixed fleet of KME, Pierce, and E-One. Engine 11 is back in service in that neighborhood after 20 years.Mike Maida

Bob as the other mikes described jump companies man multiple pieces of equipment. It’s a band aid for shitty staffing and doesn’t work. When the engine is out of the firehouse the rescue is not available. Great concept to let the public believe you actually have staff.. it’s a shell game

Same goes for Engine 3 and Truck 3. If a fire call comes in in a non high rise building, they will respond in Engine 3. If a high rise fire call comes in they will jump onto Truck 3.
Peoria has ordered 3 new trucks from Pierce two are towers which I am sure will replace Trucks 1 and 14 which I believe are 2005 or 2006 KME’s and truck 4 which is a 2010 Pierce 75 foot ladder. Trucks 1 and 14 are tower ladders and will be replaced with tower ladders.

They are companies that are in service but they don’t have dedicated firefighters on duty assigned to those units. With the example of Engine 11 and Rescue 1, if a fire call comes into station 11 they will take the engine. However if a auto accident with extrication comes in, the crew from engine 11 will jump onto Rescue 1 since Rescue 1 has all the specialized extrication equipment on it!
