Marty – Thanks for this information! I won’t argue with you like Hairy does for everything!
I thought the city bought about 5 Rams and I didn’t realize they bought any F-350 or F-450’s as of the past few years. I remember when the city almost all E-350’s for a few years. Just curious to know why they go back and fourth but than again none of the city fleet is consistent.

Mike C. The city currently has several Type I’s. They bought a bunch of Rams a few years ago and have 2 F-450’s at A46 and A63 and an F-350 at A80.

Mike – To the best of my knowledge the city hasn’t purchased any Type 1’s within the past few years. I thought all of them were Type 3’s. Just seems odd to have a mixture of Type 1 and Type 3’s.
Hairy – You have to be nuts if you think repurposing an old Chicago ambulance chassis is a good idea. By the time the city gets done with them, they are total garbage! Also, when are you going to start using some grammar? We can’t even make out what you’re saying 90% of the time!

To clarify the Niles comment I put fire truck in quotes cause that’s what the article said but a new post here shows its a pierce Enforcer engine

If I had to guess, it likely comes down to cost.

Mike the city has done this for a while now. There are certain houses an F series won’t fit into. 99’s house just isn’t long enough and houses like 78’s and 98’s where you share the same door with the engine but park next to them. The couple feet saved in an e-series means the difference in not hitting the building. They try to leave as much room as possible for the engine to get out without hitting anything..
Michael M. That is odd Niles is ordering a new truck. They just got the current truck 2. I read the order was for an engine to replace a spare that was built in the 1990’s. Maybe Harry knows about this since he probably knows the assistant public works helper.

Why did the city mix the ambulance agreement between Type 1 and Type 3’s? I’d like to think there is more to it than the size since the city has gone back and fourth over the years.

Does anyone have any idea who Niles chose to build their new truck?

Harry, WHEN was the last time that a 4×4 (Gas or Diesel) Ambulance was operated in the Chicago Fire Department ?? WHY would the CFD Need to convert an ambulance into a stake bed vehicle After the vehicle is not feasible for use as a spare ambulance?
#10 by Martin on September 5, 2022 - 9:02 PM
Chicago runs their ambulances into the ground. Surprised if any get a second life.

Tim well yes I like the f series better but imo it makes more sense because you can get it in 4×4 gas or diesel but it also opens the possibility of the dept wants to u can turn it into a stakebrd flatbed dump truck and so on so that is why I care it is called good money management as oppose to the e series not that Chicago would repurpose a vehicle like this 4

Harrry who cares? Guess what they’re not completely in love with the F series like you are.
#13 by Harry on September 5, 2022 - 8:05 AM
Danny will it be more f series or e series or half and half

There is a multi year 50 million dollar agreement for type 1 and type 3 ambos on e and f series chassis

just a ambulance at fleet, new ambulances ordered this year and last year are delayed long term due to chassis shortages. CFD had orders in for 31 ambulances in 2021 and 24 ambulances for 2022 and they are all TBD on delivery due to chassis shortages.
Niles, il fire chief just was in a news article stating there ambulance was delayed into a May 2023 estimated delivery date as well as a “new fire truck” to replace a 1992 reserve unit is estimated for deliver in may 2024…
as for new orders for the city there is nothing that’s been reported as in the works yet but somethings rumored to be on the way that i know of. there is also 1 more rear mount to be delivered on this order to cap it off at 8 total.

I could never figure why they waste money spec’ing bumper sticks. It’s a tilt cab.
#18 by Mike hellmuth on September 4, 2022 - 9:17 AM
Anyone know what’s left to be delivered and new orders?

With a new (I think,) CFD ambulance in the reflection of the paint job.
