Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
Buffalo Grove firefighters launched their version of the annual Fill-the-Boot campaign Saturday with the inaugural Fire Up! Food Truck Festival fundraiser. Organizers estimated that more than 4,000 area residents joined Local 3177 firefighters at Woodland Park, helping to raise over $6,300 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The food truck festival was a departure from firefighters and other volunteers standing in roadways, approaching vehicles in traffic to solicit donations.
Nine food trucks, a Fire Up! Kids Zone, live music by cover band Focal Point and a beer tent featuring Prairie Krafts Brewery were on hand. And attendees bought a sleeve of raffle tickets and dropped them in more than two dozen rubber fire boots for the chance to win sports tickets to dinner – all donated by local businesses.
Food trucks included Three Legged Tacos, Cookies with Flavor, Ms. Tittles Cupcakes, Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering, Coastline Cove, A. Sweets Girl, Mario’s Cart, My Funnel and Your Sister’s Tomato where one family enjoyed a sausage pizza.
The International Association of Firefighters annually host a national fill-the-boot campaign for MDA. The Buffalo Grove Professional Firefighters have raised $150,000 for MDA since 2010.
