From the Chicago Police Department Facebook page:
Today, Chicago police officers, joined by Chief of Patrol Fred Waller and Deputy Chief of Community Policing Dwayne Betts, unveiled the next generation of CPD patrol vehicles wearing a new design for the first time in decades. The design was imagined by Officer Jennifer Jacobucci and was selected by a panel of police officers and community members. It includes the familiar blue and white color scheme, along with our tag line “We Serve & Protect.”
Beyond the new design, the vehicles feature mobile computers so officers can access real-time information as well as improved lighting options to enhance police presence. Some, like the vehicle unveiled today, will be equipped with license plate reader technology (shown in the photos) to help officers locate stolen vehicles with greater speed and accuracy than ever before.
The new vehicles will hit the streets later this year, but can be seen now at the Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place which runs from February 9 – 18. You can also sign up at the booth to take the May 2018 police exam or go online at www.BetheChangeCPD.com
Check back later for more information on CPD’s new patrol vehicles!

I agree, why are they even changing graphics? The current ones look fine. This is a step backwards in my opinion. Definitely looks more like a taxi than a police car. I’m all for tradition like with the CFD. I’d think they could spend more time working on their incredibly high crime rate than worrying about the look of their vehicles.

I agree that the so called new police car design is really unnecessary. It is ironic how the Chicago Fire Department is using it’s traditional black over red. Even new buggies are going back to black tops but the CPD has nothing better to do than play games with the paint scheme on police cars. There is nothing wrong with white over blue striping with red lettering that they have been using since the mid 1970s. If they want to change colors then let them go back to the blue and white they began using in 1960 when Orlando Wilson took over and modernized the department. Before that police cars were black with a white roof, a red light, and plain white printing on the side.
Strange as it may seem the Los Angeles Police and Fire Departments have kept the same color schemes for decades. The LAPD uses black and white like they always have.

I’m not sure if they noticed it, but the whole thing hangs askew a bit..

Well, if they wanted a change they have it, but IMO this is a step back compared to the old design. Both the 1960s and the current design had some style, this is just weird.

Too bad FORD had to discontinue the CROWN VICTORIA.
I like to imagine a new version with a 3.5L ECOBOOST or 5.0L V8.

I guess I’m the only one that likes this new graphics scheme, sure it looks a little “busy”, but it sure is a breakaway from that old tired 1976 red, white and blue concept.
The best part is that they brought the CPD Star back and trashed the C.A.P.S. star.
And it was actually designed by an officer that works at ORD, the one that made the fire saves last year, while on her way to work.

Fugly. And that’s being polite. Looks like something some deputy chief’s 5 year old put together.
