Midlothian Fire Department news

Excerpts from ABC7chicago.com:

Investigators are working to figure out what sparked a fire that heavily damaged several family-owned businesses in south suburban Midlothian Saturday night.

Firefighters said they got the call around 11 p.m. When crews got to the scene, the building at 147th Street and Pulaski Avenue was engulfed in fire. The stubborn blaze took nearly four hours to completely put out. Fire departments from several surrounding communities assisted Midlothian firefighters. No one was injured.

Two businesses, Midwest Meat Market and Lisa’s Diner, suffered major damage.

“In the back of the building there are two apartments. Police kicked the door in. Removed them. Got them out safety,” said Midlothian Fire Chief Stephen Hotwagner.

The building is a complete loss. For the business owners, their livelihoods have been put in jeopardy, but that is not what any one of them were thinking of Saturday.

Friends have created a GoFundMe page for the Kenealy family.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Summit Fire Department news

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

Summit firefighters were called to the 7600 block of West 61st Place about 2:30 a.m. Saturday and found heavy smoke and fire coming from an apartment building.

All 12 occupants of the three-unit structure escaped, but one needed to be treated for smoke inhalation, and a  firefighter was treated for exhaustion.

The Red Cross provided housing assistance to the residents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Several other fire departments provided mutual aid, including Oak Lawn, Evergreen Park, and North Palos.

3-Alarm fatal fire in Bensenville, 11-19-17 (part 8)

More on the 3-Alarm fatal fire in Bensenville, 11-19-17

This from Steve Redick:

Took this job in a week ago. Originated as a fire alarm and was filled out to a full response before FD arrival. One civilian fatality, presumably from the fire apartment. When I arrived fire was in the attic space and working it’s way throughout. Water supply was a problem as I was told they have small mains in the area. The smoke conditions here were pretty amazing, very fluid and constantly changing. The really noteworthy things from a “fire fan” perspective was the first use of the brand new Bensenville rearmount E-ONE quint and the first use of Chicago FD Squad 7’s Snorkel. Squad 7 is quartered at rescue station 3 at O’Hare field and has a response area that extends to the northwest side of the city proper, and as in this case, is due on some MABAS alarms in the surrounding suburbs. Their rig is the only one of the four squad sets ordered that is lime green and really doesn’t see much fire duty where an elevated master stream is used. The rig was really put to the test at this job. I am enclosing a few of my favorite images and I would encourage you to see the video and all the images here:

Working fire in Riverwoods, 11-26-17

Deerfield-Bannockburn and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD firefighters were sent to 601 Eagle Court in Riverwoods Sunday afternoon for reports of fire in the rear of the house. as seen by neighbors. The alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 working fire prior to any units arriving based on reports that the house was well involved.  Lincolnshire Engine 52 arrived first and had flames showing in the rear. They reported that the fire was on the exterior of the house in the rear and they hit it with a line. Deerfield Engine 20 was the second suppression unit on the scene. The fire was extinguished quickly and the balance of the companies responding were held up.
