This from Mike Summa:
Hello,This was part of the Miller Woods Fire Protection District near Steger, Illinois. I believe it to be a mid-1960s GMC van. I know that it’s not a fire truck, but I just think that it’s neat looking. Unique. I hope that others will enjoy,Thank you,Mike S.

Originally that van was used for carrying personnel then was used as the Dept.’s first Ambulance and lastly used for a cascade system. In the early 90’s it had just 10,000 miles on it and was taken to the Chevy dealer for oil change and full check up since it was offered when the unit was bought new, Chevy dealer honored that offer. Van had a 3 on the tree transmission so some had a difficult driving it. Rotators on the roof were originally Fed Signal Model 14 chain driven replaced with the Unity Split fires to match the other units in the dept. when the 14s died. I grew up in the Dept. as both my Dad and Mom were members, later I joined as the Dept. Photographer.

Wasn’t that the air truck? Came by Olympia Gardens for a training one time.
