Chicago Marathon runner aided by CFD

Excerpts from theChicagoTribune.com:

A runner in his 60s suffered an apparent heart attack along the route of the Chicago Marathon Sunday morning on the North Side about 9:40 a.m. at Lake Shore Drive and Melrose Street, but a Chicago Fire Department paramedic revived him.

A paramedic used an AED, automatic external defibrillator, which restored his heart rhythm to normal, and “got him back,’’ according to Larry Langford, CFD Media Affairs.

A outside ambulance, Superior, took the man to Presence St. Joseph Hospital where his condition had stabilized.

There were several other people taken to hospitals during the marathon but their injuries were not serious.
