2-Alarm brush fire in Hawthorn Woods. 10-18-15

This from Larry Shapiro:

The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to a field of cattails burning Sunday in Hawthorn Woods. The field was surrounded by homes and access to opposite sides of the field was several blocks away. They requested a MABAS Box Alarm for assistance and later upgraded to the 2nd Alarm due to the large area and access issues. The address used for the incident was 8 Westwind Court.

I arrived after the 2nd Alarm companies to find the fire was already out. Here are the few images that I took at the scene.

Zion ambulance strikes pedestrian

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

A Beach Park man who apparently ran out in front of an ambulance early Sunday morning is in serious condition at a Libertyville hospital.

The Lake County sheriff’s office said in a statement the pedestrian was in the area of Sheridan and Beach roads in Beach Park around 1:30 a.m. when he suddenly ran out in front of the northbound Zion Fire Department ambulance. Paramedics immediately attended to the patient.

The ambulance was on its way back from dropping off a patient at a hospital when the incident occurred. The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian ran into the path of the ambulance that did not have its emergency lights and sirens activated.

No charges have been filed at this time pending toxicology results, said the sheriff’s report. The sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigation Unit is conducting the investigation.

Lake County Indiana MABAS update

This from Dennis McGuire, Jr.

Starting in October, Lake County, Indiana fire departments and police departments will all be dispatched by one center. Motorola Solutions, Inc. and AT&T have been working on this for a year. Not all of the fire departments went online at once, but at the end of October all departments will be under the new center. I believe the center is located in Crown Point, Indiana. The numbering system is as follows:
00     = Stations
01-09= Officers
10-19= Engines
20-29= Trucks
30-39= Rescues
40-49= Tankers
50-59= Specialty Units
60-69= Ambulances
70-79= Brush trucks
80-99= Individual department members
The following is a partial list of the departments and their assigned number(s):
1200-Cedar Lake
1500-Crown Point
1800 to 2100-Dyer
2200-Munster
2500-East Chicago
3100 to 3300-Griffith
4100 to 4800-Hammond
5100 to 5200-Highland
5300 to 5600-Hobart
5800-Lake Dale
5900-Lake Hills
6100-Lake Ridge
