The Northbrook Fire Department has the following new units on order:
- Pierce Impel PUC engine
- Freightliner/Horton ambulance
- Ford Expedition for Battalion 11
Additionally, depending on the daily manning, they’re putting their utility unit (pickup with utility body) into service as Rescue 12, a chase vehicle for EMS runs.

Who staffs the battalion is it the captains or the district/battalion chiefs? I would assume it’s the District/Battalion

Daily manning is minimum 17 during the day and 16 at night. Max is 21 but not the usual. Information can be found in their annual report which is posted online http://www.northbrook.il.us/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentid=7896

What is Northbrook’s daily manning and what companies are staffed? Does the squad run every day?

Bill:
Yes Northbrook receives auto aid from Glenview on the south side if town. On the west side engine 8 responds and truck 14 takes the east side.
The 2 man chase vehicle is used on ems runs. Prior to this week Northbrook was running squad 12 as rescue 12. On fire runs the rescue is a two piece that runs with tower 12 to make a four man crew. When manpower permits (3 man truck) the rescue is out of service and squad 12 is then manned.

Rob I was wondering if on fires near the south end of Northbrook (Tower 12’s district) around Willow rd, do they normally dispatch Glenview Truck 14 or Engine 8 as the second or third due companies as Truck 14 is a shorter distance to Willow rd from Waukegan rd going west , then both Northbrook Engines 11 and 10 are . The same can be said for Glenview Engine 8 at least for Willow rd going west from Shermer rd. Or does Northbrook only dispatch their own stations and fire companies on a Code 3 or a Code 4 structure fire?

No, S12 will be used still, when they have the manpower they had been using S12 to chase A12 in place of Tower 12, E12 is the POC Engine.

A “chase vehicle” would be used in place of an engine or truck company on ems runs to assist the ambo instead of putting the extra unneeded wear and tear on the front line apparatus.
My guess only is that the truck or engine would remain in quarters with two people with the chase vehicle going with two. If a run comes in for the fire company, the chase rig would meet them at the scene to form the full company.
