This from Josh Boyajian:
Here’s Berwyn’s other new Wheeled Coach ambulance in the Ford booth at FDIC.
This is apparently the only Chicago area unit on display at FDIC 2013.
Berwyn’s new Ambulance 907 is HERE.

The E series are now gas motors, and they have been getting good reviews from the departments that have bought them. The issues with the F series diesel is an emissions issue. I heard Ford knows about it, but doesn’t have a solution. I want to say it is some sort of cooler for the emissions system, but don’t hold me to that. Yes, it seems as if the F series is a popular choice for a lot of departments that prefer a better patient ride than the larger commercial chassis.

Correction, I meant the transmission issue that ford had on the F-450 that led to recalls. I was thinking about issues that ive had with an engine when writing this. The new Fords are nice but I perfer something bigger when it comes to throwing a box on the back and calling it an ambulance. I like riding up high, too bad the big Chevys and GMCs are gone.

At the current time, there is no diesel option for an E-Series van or cut-away chassis which is why departments wanting Ford vehicles need to go to the F-Series or buy a Chevy or bigger International/Freightliner chassis.
The new Transit van rolls out this year and will gradually replace the E-Series over the next couple years

What are the issues with the F Series? Haven’t heard of any yet and it seems to still be the popular choice for most departments with very little complaint since they have been redesigned. I know many Dept’s that have the F series pickups for up to 2-8yrs back with no problem. Also, they have been a reliable diesel and ease of routine preventative maintenance.
If your refering to the diesel engine with fuel in the oil that was a problem with the reformulated diesel fuel years ago before engine seals where changed and affeceted numerous manufacturers.

Even the F series has engine issues too. Its a ford thing.

One reason they got these was because the F series won’t fit in their center house with its length

I’m really surprised Berwyn stuck with the E series Ford Chasis considering Ford is doing away with these for ambulances because of multiple engine problems across the nation. Most towns are going to the F series.

This was the only new unit on display at FDIC for the chicagoland area. There was Mabas 10 MVU on display like last year, and in Federal Signals Booth, they had Alsip’s Chiefs buggy on display with one of their new Light bars.
