The Lake Zurich engine is a Pierce Saber with a raised roof and roll-up compartment doors. The top of the cab is white. This has already been mentioned as a break from the rest of the Lake Zurich fleet. The new unit was being built as a stock unit when Lake Zurich contracted for it. This explains the raised roof and white cab.

Wilmette’s apparatus staffing can sound very confusing at times depending on their current minimum shift staffing. Station 27 has 3 on the engine and 2 on the ambo. Station 26 has 3 on the tower ladder, 2 on the ambo and a shift commander, making 11 their minimum daily staffing. On days when nobody is off, they have up to 12 or 13 on a shift. When this happens, squad 26 will be staffed with ususally 2 firefighters. When there is a reported fire in Wilmette and the squad is not staffed, if ambo 26 is home that crew will jump to the squad and take it to the fire.
Now as for the new “rescue” company. It is my understanding that there will be a minimum 12 staffing daily, in theory assigning 4 firefighters to the tower ladder. However, 2 will be assigned to the rescue company & tower ladder. It may be a similar program such as in Phoenix with the “ladder tender” program. The rescue will run in place of the big tower ladder on EMS runs, CO investigations etc (basically runs that don’t need a pumper apparatus). Now im not sure if all 4 members will run on the tower ladder on fire runs if both rigs are in quarters, or if it will be run as a 2 piece company. That we will find out soon.
Hope this helps some of the speculation. And keep in mind, this is the fire service, this call all change up at a moments notice. Don’t shoot the messenger!

Seems like a waste if wilmette is ordering another squad do they really use the international squad truck that often I guess they like having double of each vehicle

So the question in regards to Wilmette is where is the manpower for the mini Squad coming from? Will they make it a “jump company” where they get the crew off of the Truck company.
I was wondering does Tower Ladder 26 only run with 3 men like most of the other suburban companies or are they lucky enough to run with 4 men? I know that when Tower Ladder 26 was put in service a few years ago Engine 26 was taken out of service and technically speaking Tower Ladder 26 can be used as Quint as it does have a pump and some hose on it. When Engine 26 was still in service if I’m correct they ran with 3 men on the Engine and if they had enough man power on duty they would have as few as 2 men on the old Truck or on the Squad.
How do they run the current medium duty Squad now?

The Lake Zurich Engine doe’s not have the name of the chassis on the cab like the other Pierce’s have. So my thinking is it is a Contender but I could be wrong. Maybe someone can find out.
In regards to the rescue for Wilmette this will chase Ambulance 26 on EMS instead of Tower 26 this will not have a pump or tank.

No, they don’t rob. Not mentioned anywhere on their website. They very quietly discontinued it…no press conferences, news releases, etc. But if you do some research, you’ll see that’s the case.

Is LZ’s Contender used? I thought they stopped making those. Perhaps it is a replacement for the truck.
